i had a 2015 Ram 3500 that a tree totaled back in November so i replaced it with a 2016 Ram 3500. the new truck didn't have a cd player in the console or the app on the screen, my old truck did so i had the garage swap console with wiring and connect the cd player in the new truck. The cd player has power. it lights up. i can load a cd and eject cd's, but, won't play. Dealer wanted $200 plus to flash system to install cd player into the system. Does anyone know where i can download these files and flash it myself? I did download the software update hoping it would see the cd player and install it, but, it didn't.

Check out the threads on the phone app "Alpha OBD" it can probably do the necessary changes.....It's a $50 app that can do what the dealer normally must do.

Is the radio a infotainment or is the CD player you added? Did you swap the radio and CD player or just the CD player?

I was thinking that as well but I just scrolled through the app and some of my logs and can't find any settings for the CD player? Doesn't mean it's not there but I'm not seeing it.

Take a look at this...

It appears that there is a jumper that needs to be removed and a module put in it's place. Did they swap that over as well?

That is an aftermarket add on system.

If the install was done all factory style (direct swap), then it needs to be enabled by the dealer by adding the sales code. The way the alfa software enables the CD player (if the OP goes this route), is by connecting to the external disc module and enabling the “eject cd” selection.

Like said before, the dealer needs to add the sales code for it to function. You can get the alfaOBD software (Android app or PC download) and a Bluetooth dongle and do it yourself. https://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/...484041-resetting-your-tpms-light-alfaobd.html
I'll check it out. damn shame the dealer charges $100 an hour, still didn't know how to do it and then wanted another hundred to make phonecalls to find out. I raised enough hell they backed my truck out and i left without a bill.

It’s a trickier one to figure out, but you would connect to the external disc module, then select eject disc and hit start, and that’s what enables it.
Gotcha. I saw the eject CD but didn't realize it would configure the button. That app amazes me every day. What gold mine!

Dealer is trying to rape you, $200 to add the sales code is ridiculous, takes a tech about 15 minutes, and most of that time is screwing around time.
Yeah, good thing they didn’t bill you. No way should you be paying their hourly rate while they try to figure out how to use their own equipment to no avail.

repair manager tried to tell me that if the truck was ordered with cd player it had a different head unit than the one thats built without a cd player. everything up to the head unit was swapped to the new truck and connected. it even powers on and ejects a disc. just no app to play or control it. Why would Dodge use 2 separate head units? especially when the cd player cable port is in both head units.
The technician was a young guy and said he didn't know how to do it. Funny, the week before when i was in there he said no problem, It just needs flashed. While i was there they kept saying, no, what we were told was the truck had a cd player before. No one told them that. I went back with the salesman the first time, then called on the phone before setting the appointment, both times explaining what was done. i did the same thing when i handed them the keys. This truck did not come with a cd player. my old truck did. i had the console, wiring and cd player swapped to this truck because the new truck didn't have one. Idiots!

I just did this exact thing a week or so ago.
I have a '17 Laramie with no CD. I bought a junkyard console to get the CD base and wire harness.
Plugged everything in and as you say it will power up and insert and eject, just not play.

I knew that from reading tons of forum posts.
Called two different dealers and only one would talk to me to do it.
Scheduled a 9:30 appt., they took me in at 9:30 and I was driving out of the parking lot at 10:30. Total cost with NJ tax was $129.87.

When I signed in there was two techs and two service writers and only one knew or was authorized to do sales code changes. Others didn't understand what that was.

You want the "RH1" sales code added in. "RH1" is the slaes code for remote single disc cd player. Applies to all mopars.

CD player works excellent and has nice on screen menus for songs and song info.:smile2:

Incidentally, they sell those aftermarket "Infotainment and another name also sell for like $600-700.

You end up with a Mickey Mouse install.

Total cost of factory set up:

Used CD console shipped-$260.

Brand new Mopar cd player-$130.

Dealer RH1 sales code- $129

And I am going to sell what is now a nonCD floor console. So I will end up getting my money back for that.
