OK so, at the dealership, I just paid (like a fool) 90 DOLLARS for a MO-608 Mopar fuel filter for my 12 6.7L....the salesman apologized and said he didn't know why the price went up. I can't do THAT again. Please recommend aftermarket fuel filters that you have had good success with. I am changing my fuel filters with every oil change. I have seen several look alikes on ebay for cheap...but don't know if those would put my fuel system at risk.
thx in advance

I would recommend staying with a Mopar or Fleetguard filter. You ever have a fuel issue involving the filter, warranty may be out the window. Not to be mean, don't skimp on fuel filters. I pay $49 or so for the FS43255 Fleetguard fuel filter from Ram Cummins Turbo Diesel and Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Parts and Accessories - Geno's Garage.

Geno's I used the 2 micron Nano filter which comes in a Mopar box . In buying from Ginos is like getting a box of cracker jacks cuz you're always going to have a surprise inside. At least I always find surprises. Best of luck to you... always have an extra one of those filters on hand
I read the story where somebody used to Wix filter and dealer and Chrysler both shot him down for his warranty...???

Doesn't matter what fuel filter u have, Chrysler will still stiff u on injector warranty with "bad" fuel... My dad uses nothing but mopar crap and when his injectors went.... Uh bad fuel.. That will be 6k please.. Wait.. So did your high $ cheapo filter not do its job? Dunno?? That will be $6k and $90 for a new MOPAR filter that we'll make sure we don't warranty when the injectors crap out...
Run a 2mc and be sure that the crap is filtered out!

I'm running the new fs53000 fleetguard filter aka the nanonet 5micron outer layer 3 micron inner layer for piece of mind.
(Mopar 68157291-AA Nanonet Filter)
If you look around you can find them for about 55-60 bucks shipped, the ram/mopar re-boxed filter seems to be a couple bucks cheaper than the fleetgard box...but it's the same filter even says fleetguard on the filter.

As posted above I too started changing the filter every oil change (7500 miles) and they look way dirtier than that pic above. I also started taking a spare with me on longer trips as one trip down to texas, all was good on a almost new filter, then on the way back must have got some dirty fuel and when I got on the skinny the truck would pop a low rail pressure code. Made it home and pulled the filter and it was black and sucked in on the sides( had just under 4000 miles on it) so you never know how long they might last.

I still have 2 FS43255 fuel filters on hand. Will Probably start using the FS53000 filter. Since I see less than 15,000 miles per year, I change yearly. Yes, my last one was very black looking with 9,728 miles on it.

"Run a 2mc and be sure that the crap is filtered out!"

^ this is now one of the biggest reasons for filter plugging in the winter
the never ending quest to filter down to 3microns or less.

Asphaltenes, ie black filters are from old fuel and fuel that has gotten hot.
If you idel a lot of don't go over 35mph your returing a lot of fuel back to your tank, every pass it makes with out getting burned , exposes it to heat and pressure, which results in the fuel degrading and for Asphaltenes to form.

Example of a filter that has seen a good amount of the Asphaltenes.

wow, i had no idea what "asphaltines" were, but after reading everyone's replies, and watching this webinar, I am glad I did not buy the generic filters. If you haven't watched it, it is quite interesting.

Go to www.cumminsfiltration.com

click "Products", then "fuel system", then "fleetguard webinar"

you will have to fill out a short registration form, but it is worth the time. Crazy to see the scratched up injector walls. I used to think "microns schmicrons" LOL, but now it is going to be fleetguard forever. Wow. Again.
