I have the automatic with 15000 miles on it. Ever since I bought the truck it down shifts hard from 2nd to 1st when I am slowing down to a stop. Around 5 miles an hour. Sometimes harder then other times. Sometimes not at all. Its hard to describe but it does make some noise and a slight jerk when it does it. My dad and buddy both had allison trannys in there chevy trucks that did the exact same thing. My dad sold his with 175,000 and my buddy totaled his with about 130,000. Neither one of them had any issues. So when I got this truck and it did it from day one, I assumed it was normal. I would like to know if there are any other 6.7 with the auto trannys doing the samething.

Try the tow mode. Is it possible that yours is in tow mode and you don't know it? Maybe it is stuck in it? When I have used tow mode, it does downshift very hard as well. Worth a try. If not, I'd look for a warranty job before the end of the warranty...meaning, go drive the heck out of it.

SUBJECT:
FLASH: 68RFE Transmission - Harsh Coastdown Shift And/Or Harsh 2-3 Upshift
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Transmission Control
Module (TCM) with new software.
MODELS:
2007 - 2008 (DH/D1) Ram Truck (2500/3500)
NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 68RFE automatic
transmission (sale code DG7) built on or before November 06, 2007 (MDH
1106XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience a harsh downshift from the transmission when coming to a
stop. When a vehicle stop is initiated from 4th gear (around 40 Km/h or 25 MPH), the
harsh downshift condition will usually occur as the vehicle decelerates to a speed of about
16 Km/h (10 MPH) . If the transmission is in 2nd, 3rd, 5th, or 6th gear, when the stop is
initiated, the condition will not be present. This may cause the condition to appear to be
intermittent to the customer. Because the harsh downshift may occur below 16 Km/h (10
MPH), the customer may believe that they are experiencing a harsh 2 - 1 downshift.
