The other day I ran out of fuel and primed the system, then had some trouble starting but i was enough to get home. Now it does want to start at all. It will turn over but doesn't fire. It's not getting fuel so I tried priming again (for two hours) and nothing happens . There is fuel in the filter but nothing getting to the cylinders. I don't know... could a leak between the LP and injector pump be the cause why i can't prime the system? I started to check the fuel solenoid and no cracks in boot or corroded link. Any way to bypass the LP and get fuel to the cylinders to start?
Any help would be great, I just want my truck to run again :banghead:

When your priming it, do you hear the overflow valve making a funky noise every couple of pumps?

is the shutoff solenoid pulling up when you try to start it?

If your this far, its likely that you have an internal issue with the pump (stuck plunger/rack)

i don't hear anything when I hit the primer... Sorry I still learning my truck i just got the truck maybe two weeks ago... where exactly are the overflow valves? those aren't the hard line just to the left of the AFC that come from the exhaust manifold are they?

the overflow valve is part of the banjo fitting on the forward part of the injection pump (jammed in there very close to the head)

Its duty is to regulate fuel pressure in the pump. while priming the system you should be able to hear it make a squeaking type noise as its opening to dump fuel into the return line.

If your not hearing it, its either stuck open/broken or your not getting fuel to the pump.

Its a very tight fit, but you should be able to take the OFV apart without actually taking the banjo bolt out of the pump. Pull it apart and try priming to see if their is any fuel getting to the pump.

IT looks somethin like this:

alright so i been going through all tech article and previous threads to do some diggin on the fuel system on my truck (seeing how that meat and potatoes of a diesel). maybe someone could fill in some of my gray areas. starting at the tank, lines go from the tank to the heater bowl to lift pump (mechanical) which draws fuel from tank to filter to delivery valves and somewhere in there is the injector pump to injectors to cylinder. i search and search does anyone have good cutaway pictures of the motor(short block or head).

It's a good idea to remove the fuel heater. It will eventually burn up and cause a big air leak.

Read JoeG's fuel system writeup in the '94-'98 tech articles section. You'll learn a lot.

Don't start throwing parts at it, figure out what is wrong. Turn on the key, bump the starter over and see if the solenoid has lifted. They do stick closed sometimes.

The exact same thing happened to me when i first got my truck.... It was a bad lift pump. Loosen the small screw on top of the fuel filter housing(there are 2 and its the one closest to the front of the truck i believe its like 10mm) after you loosen the bolt a few turns pump the lift pump like you have been doing and fuel should come from there. If not you have a bad lift pump.

:agree2: if your not gettin fuel to the pump this is most likely your culprit. easiest thing to do is start trackin your fuel system. start with lift pump. if thats good move to fuel filter. then onto pump by then you should find it. dont just start jumpin around replacin parts and hopin it will work. work smarter, not harder

i doubt this will help at all, but when i did my new motor all the fuel ran out of the lines from the tank to the lift pump, and i drilled open an old fuel cap and stuck an air nozzle in there to put pressure in the tank, then i pulled the rubber feed line off where it meets the metal line that runs down to the lift pump until fuel came out and stuck it back on, i might've even kept the air pressure to the tank when i started it, i can't remember
