Is your truck charging via the alternator?

Can i have the error code? it might be worth looking here for the wiring diagram.

You say you were messing around with the valve cover correct? Did you check the two plugs above the valve cover on the fire wall?

If not then its time to pull out the wiring diagram.

I went through this and it sucks, but for me it was a missing power lead, go figure.

after i put the new cab on my truck (rust is my biggest pet peeve) and got everything hooked back up, went to start it and it threw a "NO BUS" in the odometer and the dash lit up like a christmas tree. my first thought was a ground issue, so i went thru the whole truck and checked all connections. still nothing. so i unhooked both batteries, threw them on the charger, hooked them back up the next day, cycled the key a few times and it started right up, no issues to this day. moral of the story is that it was a combo of low batteries, corroded terminals and loose battery cables. try this before you jump to any hasty conclusions, chances are its something stupid. just my $.02

i cleaned all of my grounds, but im thinking that if we can get him to give us the error code then i can look at the wiring diagram ad we can then check the wires going back and fourth.

But like everything else, its usually a wire not hooked back up...

Maybe the engine ground came loose?
