As with many here my heater stopped blowing hot air, blende doors worked as they should. After reading a few posts i flushed the heater core, disconnected the hoses, added about to feet on each one to elevated the head above the core. I initially flush in reverse direction and normal direction a few times, blow out the water with my air compressor using minimal air pressure and then added a bottle of radiator flush so it topped out at the top of both hoses and let in sit for about 45 minute. I did not use the CLR as I seen in several Youtube videos, just did not want to take a chance. Flushed it again in both directions several times until I stoped getting that flaky **** coming out, I flushed the coolant reservoir as it was full of that **** on the bottom until it was as clean as it would get. Replace the stat as well.

I have heat again…… come spring I’ll be flushing the whole system and replacing the coolant reservoir again for the second time in 5 years. I think I’m going to change to Amsoil coolant, I did this on my 06 SRT and i Never had anymore issues with my coolant reservoirs getting messed up and heater core issues.

I think I’ll be doing this soon. Just doesn’t seem to put out the usual heat sometimes. Want to flush it before anything fully clogs.

How many times (if any) have you serviced the coolant system since new ?
Have you ever added coolant or water ? How many miles ? Thanks!

Being it only has 89,000 and change It not up for coolant service, I did replace the coolant reservoir 2 years ago. Added new coolant at that time, never added any water. I’ve only used the Mopar coolant spec for this truck. All and all I’ve never had to add any coolant for top off.

I’m at about 80k kms or 50k miles and only topped up with coolant. No ideas what dealer might have used during water pump recall.

I had my warranty recall water pump replaced @ 25K miles. I now have 80K miles and have not had issues with heat loss. I see a lot of others here with heat loss issues from restricted heater cores ???

@ Duelly Dad.
This is why I was asking your history. It almost sounds like scale restricting the flow based on your statements from the expansion tank contaminates and what came out of your core.
I just hope I didn't just jinx myself :p

I wonder if the coolant chemistry has changed from the 2016 MY to the 2018 MY and could be the cause ???

How’s the heater core flush holding up? I’m wondering how long that lasts compared to having to flush the whole system due to so much crap that seems to accumulate in these. I’m hoping to flush my core in a couple weeks.

well…it’s headed back to how it was before the flush. I have a new coolant recovery and ordered Amsoil coolant. I’ll be doing a complete flush in a few weeks.
