you got an air buble in there some where so add some coolant. same thing happened to a friend of mine after he replaced his water pump all he did was add coolant.

finally 2 1/2 hours later and 3 gallons of coolant it finally burped all the air bubbles out...the weird thing is that it never got hot..it actually never got over 100 degrees when i was driving down the road

thermostat is at highest point in coolant system
only works with water covering it, steam nyet

bet there were some hot spots in the engine block though.
you may have fried a cyl wall, dry steam pocket

may want to dump your engine oil also, oil cooler works from block coolant

auto tranny, make a guess
