Any input on better lighting would be appreciated, what has anyone done to improve nighttime visibility. My 95 12v is dangerous to drive at night. For now I wired up 2 led cubes I had laying around to help. Undecided on whether to try led conversions or just getting new headlight assembly.

I recently just finished up my HID/projector retrofit, hands down the best lighting upgrade I've ever done.

If the question is so annoying and tiresome why answer it at all?

Did the sport conversion myself with Geno's bright box.

Any LED or projector bulb upgrades, need a different housing, especially the shape and angles of the reflectors, so the light is focused the correct way to light up the road and not be shinning in the eyes of on coming drivers.

When I did a little side by side testing, even though the LED bulbs look bright and white, when you look into them, they did not do a great job of throwing the light down onto the road.
I think the projector light do a much better job.

I know people hate the LED bulb upgrade but I bought a set of NAO led bulbs on amazon. Super cheap and they made a huge difference. I've had them for about a year now and I havent had anybody flash their lights at me thinking I have my high beams on. Might not be the best upgrade but for 20 bucks I'll keep using them.

Nowhere in my post did I say I was annoyed. Apparently you are annoyed that I suggested he look up some of the many opinions and fixes that different members have applied. I suggest if you can come up with a complete list of options, links to all the companies that produce the parts, wire diagrams, installation instructions, et al that you post that rather than spend your time trolling me.

Ive tried every option thats come up for these trucks. HID projector retrofits are by far the best

Exact kit I bought with the "super" option. With those and the cheap one piece headlights I think I have $220 and maybe 2-3hrs of my time into them.

I tried about every headlight upgrade under the sun before retrofitting because I really don't like the look of projectors. Brightest and clearest headlights I have ever had in any vehicle. I only regret not doing them sooner.

I'm definitely not completely done with them but I wanted to get them on before my trip the UP.

Thanks for the recomendation. Did you do the wiring conversion so that you have two bulb connectors per side? I.e separate low and high beam bulbs?

Also which "cheap housings" did you get? Gracias

This topic has been covered ad nauseam. Search is your friend. My choice was a set of replacement lights from Genos. I was not disappointed. BTW, those cubes are dangerous to other drivers and probably illegal.

Just pointing out that this link is for the "non" Sport headlights.

I suggest if someone is looking for upgrading their stock Dodge Ram headlights but dont want to go full HID, then make sure you do the full Sport conversion with relay so that you get twice the headlight bulbs.

There are many available options too so just make sure you check reviews because its not uncommon that aftermarket headlights look nice while not in use but offer crappy light patterns when you need them. :thumbup:

Did you buy your clear headlights from Genos?
Who are you asking? I got my replacement Sport headlights from DAP https://www.dieselautopower.com. But...making sure the point is clear that if you have a non-Sport truck then you'll need the relay package to install Sport 4 bulb headlights. My truck is a Sport so no relay needed. But I did install the relay which allows the headlights to receive full voltage. I got that from https://www.danielsternlighting.com/

So, I'll throw out what I've done and learned for headlight improvements on my 97. I too was very dissatisfied with the performance of my stock non-sport headlights, even after implementing a tip for keeping the low beams on when the high beams are switched on. This mod helps with the amount of light out front, but obviously can't be used when you have oncoming traffic. This mod also increases the amount of current that runs through the headlight switch in the cab, to the point that the contacts will eventually overheat and melt, leaving you with no lights at all. I know - my headlight switch burned out twice, once when I was out hunting and in pitch black outdoor conditions. Made driving back to camp interesting to say the least.

So, back on topic. What I have now I am VERY pleased with and didn't cost an arm and 2 legs. After quite a bit of researching, I finally took a chance on some aftermarket headlights with separate low and high beams. The ones I bought are Sonar, most often marketed by Spyder. These have a projector low beam and reflector high beam and originally came with H1 halogen bulbs for the low beams and 9005 halogen bulbs for high beams. From the start, I was quite impressed with how much better these threw light out in front, yet had a nice, sharp, well defined cut-off line with the low beams and the high beams did throw light out further yet and up higher too - a good combination. However they still weren't as bright and white as I wanted, even with Osram NightBreaker headlamps. These also don't last all that long - maybe a couple hundred hours or so.

When these did burn out I started looking into upgrade headlamps as the projector and reflector housing did work well - I just wanted still brighter, whiter and longer lasting headlights. So, again, after some research, I decided to try some pretty highly rated H1 LEDs from Beamtech for the low beams. They advertised them as being made with high-end LED chips and positioned at the same distance from the base as halogen bulbs so they'd produce the same beam pattern as halogen bulbs. I tried to like them but after using them for several months I was still not being truly satisfied. Their 6500K color was a bit too blue and the beam pattern or forward light projection was really not even as good as the halogen bulbs. I was about convinced I was going to have to bite the bullet and get a relatively high-end HID bulb system (Morimoto Elite from The Retrofit Source) for low beams and figure out high beams later.

About the time I was ready to make that order I thought I'd do a little bit more research and found quite a lot of very good reviews for LED lamps from another Amazon source - Hikari. The ones I bought were these (
), costing $89.99 for the pair. I was blown away with how well these perform in my Sonar low beam projectors. They cast light WAY out in front - far further than ANY I've had before - and they still have the nice sharp cut-off like the halogen lamps. To this day I have not had even one oncoming vehicle flash me to dim my lights as they don't blind oncoming drivers - just light up the road extremely well for me driving my truck. While I haven't had a side-to-side comparison with any other vehicle that has nice HID or LED headlights, I can say I'd be very surprised if any other vehicle headlights would surpass the output (brightness, white color, great beam pattern, projection out front and sharp cut-off) these LEDs produce in these Sonar housings.

I was so impressed with the Hikari LEDs that they revived my desire to find LEDs for the Sonar high beam reflectors. Again, after more research, I finally pulled the trigger on another Amazon seller, Qcheye, and bought these (https://www.amazon.com/9005-HB3-LED-Headlight-Bulbs/dp/B07V5189TS/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=qcheye+9005+led&qid=1570051209&s=gateway&sr=8-4), costing $59.95 for the pair, and am very pleased with their performance in the high reflector positions. They cast light way out in front and are a VERY good match to the color of the Hikari LEDs. Now, I can see what's out in front regardless of whether I'm using low beams or high beams. Another big benefit is the considerably lower wattage (i.e., current) these LEDs draw through the interior headlight switch. All in all, I highly recommend this headlight housing and LED headlamps combo.
