Are you using the new style ARPs that require the rocker stands to be machined? Or the old style that you grind some webbing out of the valve covers? Or a different brand altogether?

Cummins gaskets are best. They come in different thicknesses though. There is no difference between marine and standard anymore. A thicker gasket reduces compression just slightly and lower cylinder pressures which works well with injectables and advanced timing. A thinner gasket on the other hand increases cylinder pressures for a more complete burn and better throttle response and low end. If I ever pull my head agian I'll go back to a stock thickness.

I wouldn't put my hard earned money on a gamble with a Cometic gasket. They have not proven to be any better than Cummins, if anything they may be worse :(

I bought a set of the older style back in december, the shop I got them from just had to make some calls and see if anyone still had them in stock. I think one of the styles is call ARP 2000s but I can't remember which is which.

Grinding the rocker stands isn't a bad option, it probably works better. But you have to leave the stands with a machine shop for a few days  :$:
Make sure to bottom tap the holes before you install them with either type

Heres what you grind out of the cover

And heres what the modified stands look like
