Hey guys. was in 4wd today with the yukon freespin kit and I hit the highway and was doing around 70 mph, normal highway speed. and I probably shouldnt have been in 4wd so I stopped and unlocked the hubs.

but, while I was going down the highway, everytime I let off the gas, it would make a grinding sound for a split second, almost sounded like it was in the transfer case/tranny area.

and then when I accelerated, it would make the slight grinding sound then at the very start and then go away real quick for the duration of my pull.

what could be causing this?

The chain in the transfer case is stretched. Time to replace it.

I would say that it is not serious if you never use 4 wheel drive but if you do it will cause more problems down the road.

so... mechanic said 270 for a chain, and prob 3 hours total to replace it. for near 600$.

I looked online and can get a chain (Borg Warner for 130$) or OEM for like 150$.. but then im still not sure about install time. does 3 hours sound right? the transfer case can stay in the truck right?

thanks.

If these 3rd gens are anything like my 2nd it has to come out and be ripped apart. Witch I'm pretty sure thats the case..

I have heard of guys changing it in the truck. Also i wouldn't put it off too long because that chain could kink and catch and cause some serious damage if its stretched out enough!
