Okay I have the non intercooled radiator and my truck overheated and cracked the head. so I am looking for some insurance. I know there has been a lot of discussion of radiator upgrades for these but I wanted to see what you guys thought of this griffin universal dual pass rad. The core is 26x19x2.68, which is bigger than the KKS radiator and bigger than the stock 91.5-93 rad. The cost is around $340 or something from jegs which is half the price of the one they sell for the 91.5-93 trucks. The dual pass is supposed to be more efficient and the inlet and outlet stay on the passenger side. It also has only two rows of larger tubes which is also supposed to be more efficient... Has anyone ran one of these? Thanks

Did it overheat when you was towing? I heard the intercooled radiator cooled better then the non-ic'd.

Also the non-ic'd heads are known to crack.

Cannot comment on that particular unit but I do have a universal Alloy dual pass crossflow in my truck.

Works well and only need the fans on ( and that is the low setting) days over 80 degrees towing around 7000 Lbs and truck about the same weight.

Have a look at some of the later industrial engines, their cross radiators are half the size of the old vertical single pass.

I’ve never come close to over heating my 1st gen and I’ve towed through the southeast, Texas, and Appalachia in the summer time. That’s with a 100% stock cooling system and more power than most.

Safe bet something else wasn’t up to par in the system when this happened. Water pump on the outs? Clutch fan not locking up? Radiator full of ? Fan shroud intact?

that is good to know. Do you have the crossflow rad? I had a new water pump and I tested the thermostat and it was good too, radiator was copper and only a few years old. It could have been the napa fan clutch but it was not leaking any oil. Going to replace that with the OEM from genoes garage.. I also think that after installing the intercooler it may have blocked air going to the small downflow rad?

Not sure on the CFM of the electric fans. Set of duals that came from a late model Aussie Ford, they are fully shrouded and fit the radiator perfectly.

A good friend of mine had a non intercooled first gen that the head was cracked so badly it acted like the head gasket was bad, pushed air out the rad cap but when we pulled the head the gasket looked perfect. The machinist told us the crack could have gone all the way to a water jacket.... I wonder if he had the same issue? He did state the head was cracked
