I have an '06 2500. Does anyone elses grid heaters cycle on when they restart with a hot engine? I can drive for an hour, shut the truck off and restart it immediately and the grid heater cycles on.

It is causing my engine to miss and sounds like it is running on about half its cylinders until the heater cycles off and the volts come back up then it runs fine again.

The grid heater cycles on during cold starts as well, but doesn't cause the engine to miss.

It will do that if outside air temp is too low. Mine does it all the time. Now the truck missing when this happens sounds to me like you need to go have you batteries checked.

That is my next stop, just don't understand why it only misses when the engine is hot and not when it is cold. :confused013:

Thanks for the reply.

Mine does it as well. I have new batteries and it has done it since I bought it.

I have noticed that it seems to be more pronounced than it used to be, but I doubt it really. Just might be paying more attention to it.

What does yours do? Just kick on the grid heaters or does it cause the truck to miss as well? If it is the later, did it cause your truck to miss after you installed new batteries?

It will sometimes act like it stumbles or misses when the grid heater is cycling.

One morning while doing paperwork, I kind of watched it out of the corner of my eye and noticed it was matching the movement of the voltmeter.

Batteries only seem to last on my truck about 2 years. It is the second set I bought since owned the truck.

It has over 707,300 miles on it.

Personally, I think my truck runs alot smoother and starts better with the grid heater delete installed....and the grid wires removed from the terminals

I just don't want to burn something up or damage an injector during the times when it is missing and stumbling. And even worse.... people stop and stare when it does it.... :hehe:

Try running some 2 cycle tcw-3 mine stubbles a lot less in the morning with it. Maybe $6 from Walmart for a gallon. I use a 1 quart per tank.

It never stumbles in the morning. Only after the engine is hot. Seems to be an electrical issue to me, but I don't have much experience with diesels.

I run Lucas through it monthly.

Its a cheap thing to try that's all in saying. I don't know how Lucas add to the lubrication factor. It may help it may not but IMO its worth a shot....

Even in 5 degree weather after sitting for 4 days, my truck fired up and idled fine with the grid delete

I may look into taking it out. I plug it in when its cold anyway. I just don't want a different set of codes because I took it out.

I would really like to know why it only cuts the engine when I start it warm. Why doesn't the grid heater cut the engine when its cold? When it is warm, the wait to start light doesn't come on but the grid heater still cycles....:confused013:

Maybe one of your temp sensors if out of wack. Outside air temp has to be at a certain temp for the grid to activate. Maybe it's you OAT sensor is bad. Check the temp on a thermometer and the cross with the truck. If its off by a good amount replace sensor.

Could be. Weird how the "wait to start" light doesn't come on but the grid heater cycles.

I don't notice the heat and I need to retorque my injector tubes. We both have a similar set up and no issues...

Had the batteries tested and both are shot. I'll let everyone know if new batteries solve my problems.

FYI. Outside temp was well above 60 degrees Sat. Grid heaters still came on when I started the truck.

Was that before or after the batteries were tested?
