When looking at the grid heater from the front of the truck you can see two nuts that are most likely holding the grid heater in place. I noticed that some trucks seem to have a ground wire or something that connects to one of those nuts and runs to one of the intake manifold bolts but my truck does not have this wire. Is that normal?

Power enters at the back

side ( firewall) side of the grid heater. The ground/negitve is grounded threw the grid heater frame to the engine block. No ground wire required.

So to answer the OP's question.. Normal..

early 3rd gens had a real ground wire
later used the GH frame and block.
believe the change was 04/05
