If you do decide to do 4K gov springs I would recomend doing 60LB valve springs so you dont turn your engine at 4 grand and risk smacking a valve or something to that effect or breaking a valve off cause that could destroy your engine

you just buy the 4k kit, and leave the inner springs out, thus making it a 3k kit, then when you have the cash to swing for the 60# hd valve springs you can simply throw the inners in and enjoy the 4k springs. but, be aware that your valve body has to be set up to shift with the desired kit, putting a 3 or 4k kit in a stock trans wont usually net very high shift points unless you manually shift, but with a good vb kit, you choose if you want 3k's or 4k's, and they will supply the right springs. the 3k kit is usually best because it requires the least work and money, and is the best bang for dollar. if you have time to play with them, washers can very closely mimik a 3k kit, just not quite as hard fueling up by 3k rpm's. a lot of people try and tighten the stock retainers down, but thats pushing on the idle springs too, not fun. a 3k kit can be had for about $90 and takes about an hour if you know what your doing. theres also special tools you can make to help make the job smoother. if you have never dug into the pump, it might be best to get a friend that has for peace of mind. if you loose a bolt or something and dont get it out, there goes your nice pump.

Isn't leaving the inner spring out for the 4k kit what they call a "3200 GSK"?
According to Tony597fitter (a regular poster here) and Weston (injectors) that setup can (or does) cause hard starting issues over time. ?? Not sure though, it could be a different spring combo for that custom setup. I'm not sure.

I just installed my 4k kit yesterday and my buddy free-rev'd it up to 3600 or 3700 RPM and no audible signs of anything but smooth revving (IOW, no valve slap). I kind of looked at him like "ARE YOU F'in CRAZY?!?". But hey, he's a licensed diesel mechanic with an excellent reputation.. if anything happened, it would've been on him.

Anyway, that 4k kit is unREAL!!! I can't believe how much it woke up my truck. And it fuels hard ALL THE WAY through the RPM band, not just up top.

When my bud was doing the GSK, he told me there were factory marks that helped him line up the new kit at the exact factory location (spring tension). He also counted clicks when removing the stock gov's. Then used the exact tension for the 4k kit. He also used veneer calipers to measure the depth, (in all instructions for GSK installs) but honestly that is the stupidest way to do it!! It's not accurate and there are better ways.

We didn't have to adjust my idle at all. It was the smoothest GSK install I've ever heard of. Very happy with it.

so your saying as you unscrew the tension count the clicks from the stock ones and reinstall with the same clicks and basically forget the height?

 thats how i do mine, i take a measurment with the calipers to have a good reference point, but the clicks should get ya where you need to be. its best to make a screwdriver that will fit over the center nut for easiest goings, but not a deal breaker. i use a pencil magnet and long screwdrivers and go through the fuel plate hole, most like to go thru the side of the pump.
