Hey guys, new to the site and to diesel trucks in general and figured Id start a thread to share my new truck and the projects I plan on doing to fix it up, also hoping to glean some good advice from members on here who undoubtedly know more about these things than I do. Anyhow heres the story.
Ended up picking up a 2010 crew cab drw laramie at the auctions, no keys, no idea if it ran or not, but looked like minimal damage, and clean title. Bought it online and had it shipped up to my place in western NY from Jersey. When the truck got here it was a mess, all the tires were bald, 4 were completely flat as well, and the truck was covered in stickers, and it was covered in 400 miles of road grime. Also the truck was missing its exhaust and both driveshafts, needless to say I was worried. Ended up yanking it off the trailer into my driveway with my tractor. Started off by spending the better part of an hour with the scraper removing all of the offending and offensive stickers, which made the truck look 100% better right off, then washed down the exterior and started perusing craigslist for wheels and tires. Low and behold a guy less than 2 hours away had a full set of 22.5 alcoas for sale at a great price so I went and grabbed them the next day. They were off of a chevy so I ended up taking the 8 to 10 lug adapters to a machine shop to bore them out for a dodge, and bolted them up. Truck was improving quickly. After this I set to to the initial cleaning of the inside of the truck, spent a couple hours scrubbing things, and much to my surprise when cleaning way down under the front seats I found a key! put it in the ignition and the truck fired up instantly, and seems to run great! Also ended up finding the rear driveshaft intact under a bunch of crap in the bed, and the front one broken. (Im guessing this truck was a repo and they needed to be removed for towing.) Anyhow got it up and running and rolling enough to drive it back into my barn for the winter while I get it cleaned up to my standards for next year. So now begins the questions
1. truck has just the downpipe and no exhaust thereafter, and seems to run great, My impression is that in this case it must have a tune on it of some sort to run without all of the emissions equipment. I have no idea what tuner or tune is on it. I will be looking for a tuner in short order, any recommendations and why? I just want a nice reliable tune to run deletes, and hopefully get the best mileage possible. The upcoming efilive release sounds primising but not sure if they are delete capable. Also Is transmission tuning something I should get (I dont tow a lot) or is it not that important?
2. exhaust- Thinking just a flowpro 5" with muffler, any reasons why or why not?
3.) Intake, thinking s&B wet?
4.) Drivers seat is worn through on the bolster, Id like to recover it, any ideas as to cover replacement sources? Same goes for the steering wheel
5.) anyone with used parts feel free to contact me regarding the things I need above. New to this forum but have extensive feedback under the same name in many many other forums.
Immediately after sticker removal, running boards were bent up by loading forks and were junked too
