I am about to purchase a 36ft 5th wheel and feel my truck is underpowered to pull it where i live. It is about 10k dry weight, and currently pulling my 20ft enclosed my truck is screaming up hills but barely moving. Right now i was looking for a 6.7 mega cab dually but saw the 2010 ram and want to wait till it comes out to see which one i want.

I live in a very mountainous area where its barely ever flat. First thing i am doing is upgrading my trans because that has some problems. Then i wanted to do a twin setup so i could have some good spool in low rpm's so im not screaming up high trying to go. So whats a good setup? Also what other mods that would help with power but still be ok for towing? Are programmers ok? I use to have the edge but always wanted the smarty. I have some mods in my sig. that can help with what i want to do i think but i need to know whats everything i need to do to be safe.

I also plan on some rear suspension work and bags to help out with keeping me level ect.

Also i have 3:73's right now would it be a good idea to put in 4:10's especially since i have larger wheels?

Your tires and wheels and 3.73's will be fine. Get the proper tuning (chips) and get a stocker/s400 twin set up.. I wish i would have left my truck alone after that set up... Towed like a dream and when the s400 kicked in you didn't even know you were towing...arty018:

that sounda great and like what i need, now what are some reasonable companies? I remember seeing a thread on here about an ebay co. that is a sponsor on here and has a kit for about 3500 give or take. Is that a good one if you know of it?

There are lots of people who sell that setup. Shane at Wicked Diesels, Nathan at MPI, Joe Hellmen sells a nice stocker GT3B setup, I would be willing to bet that Rip at Source Automotive has made a few sets of these, tho ive never seen them.

All of these kits that I posted are great for towing and will support about 650hp. The 3B is an old school charger but it still works great.

Twins will be $5k

New trans will be $5k

Swapping 3.73s to 4.10s will be around $5k

With twins you need to consider doing head studs and fire rings... $1k or more AND 100hp injectors... $3k

With your mods and your trailer, start with a Smarty Jr POD which is approx $500 and get some gauges (approx $350). If your trans is indeed in need of work, that will be your best money spent.

With the mods in my sig and my 11k 5er, I can pull any grade in the Pacific NW w/plenty of power in reserve and no smoke.

I personally think your 35s (tires) are killing your power and your trans while towing. You might consider dropping to 33s. For towing, stock size tires are best, which are approx 31.5"

Natans stocker/s400 is $3600, Shanes $2600, Joes $3100. With stock injectors blow off valves will work just fine to keep boost around 45, so no studs needed. Fire rings are not recomended on DD anyway. ARP 2000s and MLS gaskets have been to 900 plenty of times.

I plan on getting a hts trans(there is a local shop near me) and one of the kits old smokey listed. I know my tires are hurting me and i could do the gears myself. I want power to tow and power to play. But thanks for your input.

that stocker over s400 is a great set up and lots of guys runnin them... you will be totally happy with that kit... and will be blast for havin some fun too:thumbsup:

honestly man... all those companies listed are great... I look at customer service almost more than how the parts actually work... know what I mean? I like it when someone answers the phone when you have questions or need help with something. Shane at wicked has helped me out several times with some things from new injectors and cp3 questions... If I were you I would call the companies and talk to them all and go from there.. Just my 2 cents..:headbang:
