I have a 06 3500, it will never be on asphalt, I only use it offroad, on rivers and such. I have the stock 265/r17 tires on with v-bar chains but there has to be a better offroad only tire that would work well on ice and deep snow in the winter and mud in the spring.

I ran a set of Cooper AT3s last winter that I thought were really good in the snow. They didn't seem as good in the mud compared to the BFG ATs I had prior. Running Michelin LTX MS2s now, excellent road tire, no good in the snow.

I think more than what brand tire you should just try and get the absolute widest tire if you want to stay on top of the snow a wide tire is the best. When you spin a tire on the top of the snow an agressive tire digs through the snow dropping you through the snow faster. If you are talking about ice thats a whole different story.. You pretty much gotta run studs to have max stability. I was in the snow recently to rescure a Ford Raptor. I crept up a pretty steep hill in low range in first gear, the snow was about 4 feet deep and I stayed on top. The second I started spinning a tire it just dug a hole. I am running the BFGOODRICH Mud terrain in 255 80 17 not at all the best tire for the snow considering it is so narrow and has all that weight on the front. Still got us right up the hill on top of the snow. I was VERY impressed with the BFG's

The best snow tire is a 54 inch tire!!!

I just put the Goodyear dura trac on my truck and when we got the big snow I had it in 2wd and hardly noticed it wasn't in 4wd. With any other tire I've had my truck would get stuck on flat ground in 2wd.

I have heard really good about goodyear duratrac tires, they are a bit expensive but they last long and grip really well on ice and deep snow, and they can be studded

x2 on the duratracs. just put a set on the wifes durango and always turn the traction off. never had a problem gripping.

on my big mega tho i have the bfg at ko's. and for that big truck i have been more than pleased with the grip.

now with both sets of tires i do recommand getting them with the snowflake symbol. its thier winter version which is supposed to have 33% more gripping power than just the standard at.

I ran pro comp extreme all terrains for 6 years as my winter tires on my last truck and was very happy. Worked well for plowing snow as well.
