does anyone know of a good brake controller for an 08 dodge ram 3500 that will plug right into the wiring harness under the steering column. I have read online that is the easiest way to install one. Is this something I can buy from a dealer or is it available online?

You will hear everything from get a Brake Smart to a don't put in those cheap electronic controllers.
I am using the "Prodigy Electronic Brake Control" for my needs, this is working find for me. I bought this and the wiring harness that plugs right in so I did not need to splice any wires in.
Good Luck
Jim
P.S You can buy from PPL Motor Homes on Line or from a trailer dealer. I believe these will be less costly then a Dodge Dealer.

Lots of folks use something like the Tekonsha Prodigy. You can get cheaper brake controllers or more expensive ones. I use a MaxBrake and they are sort of pricey. I tow heavy and in all sorts of traffic so I wanted a brake controller that I knew would work good.

Online dealers would most likely be your best source to buy a controller from. Make sure the controller that you order comes with the Dodge pigtail. It will plug into the brake controller connection under your dash without having to splice any wires.

I have a Brakesmart and highly recommend it and would buy one again. It measures the brake pressure of the tow vehicle versus a pendulum or accelerometer to determine how hard you are braking. It is more expensive and the Maxsbrake is a less expensive alternative.

Check out these links and you will see a lot of people are happy with other controllers.

I agree that Brakesmart is a very good controller but the word on the street is that they are on indefinite back order.

thanks guys. I ended up going with the Tekonsha P3. I'm just waiting for it to show up in the mail. I think I got a decent price. $145 U.S. with shipping to canada included. The Brake Controller cost me $125
