1998 Dodge Cummins 2500 4x4

Going to look at this truck today, he said injectors, pump, and trans were done 70k ago. Says it runs and drives fine, needs ball joints but he has them. Also said it needs a thermostat because the engine temperature fluctuates but stays in the lines. Interior looks nice besides a rip on the drivers seat. Plus i love the extended cab short bed look. We already agreed on $5500, what do you guys think? Anything else i should look for on the truck when i go to look at it?

Says trans shifts OK in post. And you say its been "done" 70k ago? Dont know about that. I would def make sure to drive it around a while and see how the tranny reacts.. Does he have papperwork on trans being rebuilt or whatever..?

That ad just sounds sketchy.

$3k in "fuel mileage parts" Like what??

He "punched" the old odometer? So he put another one in that says 400k?

Paper work or not that sounds sketchy. Trans shifts "alright", he knows something you might not even if you test drive it.

Oil leak, find out where its from. If its a valve cover leaking thats a few bucks, coming from underneath the pump that'll be a bigger mess.

Sounds like a never ending project to me. Already turned up with "mileage" parts :hehe:, 3000k worth? Doubt it. I dont like buying these diesels already turned up, usually your asking for trouble, and in my experience theres a reason the dude is selling it.

As for the trans, you really need to take it to a shop and pull the pan. Just cause it shifts alright now doesnt mean squat in a few miles down the road. The pan will tell all, or if its squeeky clean you know he's trying to pull a quick one.

If you can get it for cheap go ahead, otherwise run.
