I put in the valair ceramic button clutch today and it does very good I expected it to be pretty rough but it is actually quite smooth. also my tranny was rattling pretty bad in 4th gear (it had 5qts. penzoil syncromesh) and changed the oil in it with 5qts. of cheap 15w-40 oil and it doesnt rattle anymore  and still shifts good.

The heavy oil will work for a short while. You need to do some bearings. The 5/30 oil spec is because getrag bearings are preloaded and the light oil is needed to get in there and lube and cool. You have one or more bearings that are badly worn and your heavy oil helps them but the others will suffer.

If you plan on keeping your truck for a long time, fix that tranny.

Spares are good. Sounds like you have the situation well in hand. I think I would swap in the spare ASAP and take my time examining the old one. Parts are readily available. Rebuild kits are fairly cheap. Replace both the input shaft and the bearings. Overfill and keep the rev's up. 'Rags can last a long, long time and be very reliable. Worn shifter forks can be a problem. Some of the guys on this forum really know their stuff on this transmission.

My own rebuild job worked quite well but I should have replaced the input shaft. I get a little noise at lower rpm's due to the worn race on the old input shaft. The new bearing could not stay tight for long running in the old race which is a part of the input shaft. So far it has not gotten any worse since the rebuild of four or five years ago.
