So. I actually have a ‘97 12V. As I’m sure you most know, the stock cup holder over the radio in the 12Vs are hot trash. I want to do the cup holder Geno’s sells that attaches to the center console. My concern is hitting it with my shifter (5 spd). Numerous people say it’s fine and it clears, but nothing taller than a Coke can.

The 24V 2nd gens have the same cup holder modification, but it places the cups further to the right, and out of the way of the stick.

I’m currently looking for a ‘98-‘02 center console to put in place of my ‘97’s for that reason.

I’m looking for anyone’s input regarding the ‘98-‘02 cup holder, or if I’ll run into any issues replacing simply the console, or if I’d need the whole jumper seat. Thank you!

I carry a 30oz yeti with me and hit it when going in reverse in my 98 so I usually keep it in the passenger side cup holder if I’m alone.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah I thought the driver’s side holder might be an issue, but at least there’s still one good holder. On the ones for the 2nd gen. 12Vs, they’re both in the middle. I feel like they’d both be useless.

I really don’t think you’ll have an issue except reverse, 2 and 4 clear fine. I had one in a 97 I had for a minute but moved it to my 95 when I put my energy into it. I’ve had one in every second gen truck I’ve had and it’s silly but one of the best things you can add to a manual trans truck.

So was it better in your 24V though?

Mine bumps a little, but not enough to worry about.

Definitely worth it in the 24V, not sure about the older models.

I didn’t drive the 97 enough to compare between it and 98+ trucks. I don’t think buying a seat or even swapping the console would be worth using the newer style cup holder.

Okay. Yeah. That’s kinda the answers I was looking for. Thanks for the help fellas. I’ll just pull the trigger and get the one for the 12V era 2nd gen.
