if its a diesel rated oil it really doesn't matter as long as its changed at a proper interval for the type your using. I use dino and change oil every 3,000 miles. Id do fuel filter every 10,000 miles and only buy fuel somewhere that sells a lot of it.

Clean oil, clean filters, clean fuel

old people love rotella t, every engine(gas) i've built in the last year was broken in with rotella t. with all the new engines using roller everything, oil has followed suit and doesnt really protect as well) and ol' rotella t is supposed to be great for flat tappet and older engines. especially your cummins :)

I use rotella t or Napa brand oil and a napa filter. I change oil every 5k and fuel filter every 10k. I might change the fuel filter sooner if I have issues with it.

thanks that helps me out a lot. When it says drain filter sediment and water how would i do that? where is the thing located at?

I have never changed oil on a diesel, is it just like changing it on a gas engine? How many gallons of oil do they hold?

Spec is 11 qts of oil but I, along with many others, just use 3 gallons.
To drain the fuel filter just lift up on the valve at the bottom of the filter.
Last time I drained mine was 15 years ago, if you buy clean fuel no real need.
I've never had the water in fuel light come on either.
