Gear swap to 3.54's

I've got 4.10's in my 3500. Looking at swapping gears since it's wound up tight at 75 mph which is the speed limit pretty much everywhere in South Texas. Was checking out Yukon gear, and the prices are pretty reasonable, except I can't find a 3.73 series and up positrac carrier. All i see is open carriers. Can you put posi trac in the open carrier after the fact, or even a lock right? Thanks for the help.

What rpms do you turn at 75mph?
if your looking at lowering your rear end gears, did you look into bigger tires appose to a gear swap? could keep the 4.10s but just needs some 35in tires of your choice, narrow or fat. and be able to run 70-75 on the express way.
I dunno if your drw or srw... 4.10s and 315/75/16s run you about the same as 3.55s and stock tires.

3.55s and stock tires will move you 29.9" per driveshaft revolution and 4.10s with 315s will move you 29.5" with each driveshaft revolution.

Almost the same

Just sayin.
Yes bigger tires work but for the price(around 1000 or more depending what you get) You might as well do a gear swap and that way you can get better mpg and save a few bucks over time. Plus bigger tires arent everyone's fancy
RPM's at 75 are right at 2500 rpm. I looked at bigger tires, but that requires taking the firestone air ride off so i don't hit the bags, plus lifting the truck because of the skirted CM bed i have on it. Truck weighs right at 12K with air compressor and welder on it, plus 8k in the gooseneck. Add on a backhoe, and i'd like to be able to downshift to 5th gear and run direct instead of beating on overdrive. Thanks for the link to the carrier.

Back to the open carrier idea. Anyone run a Richmond gear lock right or powertrax. Looked into a open carrier with a Lock right. Gonna be right at 650 or so, which is cheaper than the positrac carrier posted above, and theoretically stronger?
Do you ever use 4wd on the highway? Gear Vendors OD might be another option?
Not sure how much you have for hills but it looks like we tow about the same weight and I would kill for 4.10s. Pretty tall gear to take off in 1st when im loaded to the gills. But I also hit only about 60-65 with mine loaded and wouldn't mind a few more rpms. Have you tried driving something with the 3.55?
I second the idea for Gear Vendors. I'm running the 3.54's with 35" tires and highway cruising is great, but doggy around town, so 4.10's would be nice to have along with double OD. If you tow and use the low gearing, then keep the 4.10's for sure and look into other options.

That heavy of a truck and towing too..

I would not go to 3.55s keep the 4.10s
Hey cumminsv12 I have a dana 80 with 4.10s. Just over 200k miles on it. Ill trade ya for those 3.54s
I pull a 10k lb trailer with my truck that has a 1000+ lb spray rig in the bed putting the truck around 9k after tool box, chemicals, fertilizer, etc and i drive around town all the time with 3.55's. No problem. I think 3.73's would be a good compromise and the gear vendors option is cool too.
For what its worth i've had all 3 gear sets and I tow a lot. The 3.54s were way to high for what I did really put a load on my tranny. The 4.10s were to low so I went with 35s and it is a nice match. I personally like 3.73s with 33 inch tires.
