I changed the oil in my front diff the other day and now when I have the heater on in the truck all I smell is gear oil?Is the smell just coming out of the vent on the diff and getting into the heater intake? It's never done this before though?

Dont know if this applys or not, but read in one of the other threads where if you run rotella it will sometimes get a smell through the heater vents... don't know... just what I read here...

check the diff housing vent tube for damage and correct position

did you change brands of diff. lube?

the brands that use large amounts of sulfur extreme pressure EP additives are real stinkers. if it stinks in the jug, it will really stink when heated up by gears.

I only use Amsoil Severe Gear. full PAO synthetic. stands up to the gear shock of off roading 4wdr, Western US mountain pass heavy towing, 120d F desert heat.
and not a stinker
