The fuel pump in the tank is not getting power to the plug, I have traced the wires and cannot find where the problem is comin from. I've had a couple people go over my work to make sure I didn't miss nothin and they're stumped too. The pump on the block runs when I crank it over, but the motor is not gettin fuel. The pump in the tank isn't kickin on or runnin. I had a buddy bring over his programmer to see if it'd throw any codes, well the plug bundle where the programmer plugs into isn't gettin power either. Can I jus run a hotwire to the pump to see if it'll run? Do the two pumps need to be wired together?
I jus got this truck last Monday and its been a pain in the since I got it. Idk if this helps but the kid I got it from said that when it'd get to half a tank of fuel, it'd start "suckin air" as he described. So basically you have to keep it above a half of tank for it to run. I was between 1/2 - 3/4 when I went to the gas station. I fill up, I get back in to start er up and she wont. HELLPPP!!
By the way..new around the site..

OP, I suggest you go to the 98.5-02 Powertrain - Dodge Cummins Diesel Forum forum and ask there. I don't know much about 24 valve engines, but I do know the lift pumps fail a lot and that usually leads to a injector pump failure ($$$). As far as I know, the wires to your tank are for the fuel gauge, there isn't a lift pump in there. Also, search is you friend, learn how to use it.

Well aparently jus runnin a hotwire to the plug for the one in the tank seemed to fix it. When the kid put the aftermarket one on, I guess he decided he jus had to drop it in the tank and that's it. :confused013:

If you got it running, good deal. It shouldn't run out of fuel at a half tank though. What a PITA that would be.

If it's an 01 you will have a pigtail on the block where the original pump was located. It will provide power to the pump in the tank,,,,, if it was installed right.
BTW, If you do get air in the system from the bad suction tube, You will needa 3/4 inch open end wrench to open the injector lines in order to get the air out of the system. Good luck.
Oh and you need to drop the tank to replace that suction tube. they are known to split and then suck air at around half a tank.

The reason for it not running maybe the draw straw in tank could be cracked letting it suck air when it gets down to the crack also could need bled at injectors if you get pump running and still won't start

It is runnin, it did get airlocked and I got the air out by bleedin the lines the injector lines. I took off the bed because it was a full tank, it happened when I was done fuelin up. Its drawlin the whole tank of fuel now. I don't know what the half of tank deal was before. I've heard alot bout them draw straws crackin. Glad I aint got to take the bed off again. :)
