so i finally got around to installing my FP gauge today, and its usually reading 24-28psi. is it normal for it to be bouncing all over the place? and since i hooked it up, it makes a pretty annoying clicking noise. i kinda figure the bouncy needle is normal because of the mechanical aspect, but the clicking noise do yours do that?

The irratic gauge is caused by the pulses from the mechanical pump, totally normal. this is the reason people will usually install a needle valve inline and have it only opened a crack, to dampen the pulses getting to the gauge. this is basically just a redneck ghetto gauge snubber, but it works.

Anything over 20psi is good, mid 20s+ is even better

from the gauge...... put a needle valve inline to the gauge and leave it cracked open......or if you really have the mechanical spirit then install a diaphragm and fill the line full of antifreeze and you will never have a clicking or bouncing problem and when you have a leak its antifreeze not diesel.

With a needle valve for a dampener you can turn turn the valve off if you ever have a leak.
With the valve cracked open enough to run the gauge any leak is just a very slow drip.
I can't count how many isolators I've thrown away.
Don't use one unless you like a gauge that you can't trust.

i have a diaphram installed, it comes off the banjo bolt to the diaphram, thats the fuel part theafter the diaphram it goes to antifreeze.
