Fuel Pressure Gauge Recommendations?

2743 Views 21 Replies 19 Participants Last post by  mnglocker
Hi Guys, I have a 1999 Dodge 3500 that is bone stock other than exhaust with 160K miles on it and realize that at minimum, I need to install a Fuel Pressure Gauge.

For a guy on a budget, is there a recommended gauge I should purchase? (Best gauge for the money)

Is there a recommended gauge pod I should look at as well?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Auto meter makes a good product, stay away from the cheap gauges,(glow shifts, etc). As you probably already know, it's a MUST to dampen the fuel pulsing,(with a snubber or needle valve), which kills the gauge in a hurry.
Isspro is another good gauge-they make most gauges for stock vehicles -the one's for dodge is a match for your factory style- contac ERIC at VULCAN PERFORMANCE-www.VulcanPerformance.Com He will fix you right up with everything you will need. jim e.
Isspro FP gauge stand alone from alligator diesel, then follow moparmans gauge install guide thread post thing. I'm running it and love the simplicity of it.

Actually, there is nothing wrong with, and I really like my glowshifts, cheap and have excellent customer service. I can go through three of these gauges before they cost the same as an isspro. Didnt have good luck with autometer though

I have both glowshift and isspro gauges.. both work fine for me.. Be sure you eliminate the hammer effect from the VP on your FP gauge and all should be well.
For the pod got the autometer.. same price usually and better fit.
My isspro has been nothing but a broken headache. Bobs up and down in the reading constantly. That's with a snubber installed, new senders, new gauge, new sender and a gauge.... Autometer gauges have never given me trouble in any of my other trucks.
ive been hearing better things about glowshift lately
My vote is for an ISSPRO mechanical fuel pressure gauge. I got the gauge, install hardware and autometer steering column pod for like 140ish I think from vulcanperformance. If you can only afford one gauge at a time I'd highly recommend this setup.
I've got a Isspro EV2 electric fuel pressure gauge that i got for $140 shipped, mounted in a cheap plywood homemade mount in the location where the ashtray was. Not sure it it's 100% needed or not, but I have $8 in a needle valve from Grainger, and a $5 grease gun hose to get the sender off the fuel filter housing.

You can piece one together for about a third of that according to carl48 in this thread (A few fuel pressure gauge questions for a 99 - Dodge Diesel - Diesel Truck Resource Forums) , but that looks a little cheap to me.

Here's mine:

I wasn't going to say it, but I am in the exact same situation as you with my isspro gauge. I will admit that their customer support, (Michael), has been great, but I still have a gauge that I don't trust, it flutters all over. I also have never had any issues with auto meter, and I have installed MANY in customers' vehicles. My next gauge set will be purchaced soon, and will be auto meters. I just wish they made one that matches the factory gauges like isspro.

Where are your sensors mounted? Do you have the latest settings in the gauge heads (Sensor Scan Rate 115, Weight 0.1)? While some VP44 trucks have been challenging with their level of fuel supply pulsations, I am sure we can get yours working smoothly.

another vote for ISSPRO mechanical.....
I dont trust anything with an electrical sender....any brand
I just put a Glowshift in mine. I am pretty happy with it as far as a middle of the road gauge goes. I have a snubber banjo mounted on the VP, then remote mounted the sender on the end of a *new* grease gun hose to isolate it from the engine vibration.
ISSPRO all the way. Correctly installed with needle valve and you are golden.

... any mechanical gauge like Autometer, ISSPro, etc. Good high quality mechanical gauge with a needle valve will out live any electric sender gauge plus keep its accuracy much longer.
I run a ISSPro and like it alot
I've had good luck with my glowshift. Replaced one sender but it was my fault because I didn't use anything to even out the pressure spikes from the vp. Sent me a new one no hassle.

I installed Revolution gauges an love them, I have not came across a lot of diesel guys that use them but the ones I know of have had zero problems. Also I got them from speedhut.com an before you order you completely customize your gauges, from font size, style to front lighting or back lighting ect. right on the website so you can see what it will look like and it does not cost any more then other gauges. The one time I needed customer service was during installation, i bought them then installed them about a year later they sat in my shop, they were very very helpful!!
