Having no plate will not cause runaway. If it runs away the problem is in the governor. Plate only limits rack travel. Some ppl are scared of running no plate because of the myth that it'll cause excessive wear internally because gov arm isnt riding on anything.

No harm done to the pump from running plate less.

So running a zero isnt going to cause a runaway? Im deciding on grinding mine flat or leaving a little tail basically 0 or 100???

no, any plate will be fine. some people prefer to use a 100 plate as that little 'tail' at the bottom helps keep the gov arm from going under the plate. either one will work, they both have the same top end fueling.

As for the runaway thing. IIRC that was a potential issue with running plateless AND having the mack plug installed. Apparently their was potential to over-rotate the barrels and they could stick, not sure if their was any truth to that though.

If you're running a plate and a mack plug you are basically wasting the potential of the extra travel provided by the plug. That is unless the plate is full forward.
Let me also add that not every high hp competition diesel uses a 0 or 100 plate. Many people use 6 plates, 4 plates or even a 10-5-100 plate combo so they can have good street manners and wot performane.
