Got a nice batch of watered down fuel about 2 weeks ago, vp needs replacing, and replanning my build process. Eastern NC, little to no towing, highway truck, '02 DD w/ built auto (billet shaft, trip disc tc, etc) by Mighty Trans, Fass 150, FBD 200 sticks, BD special B, AFE box, intake, ex. mani, 5", Smarty, looking to get from current hp(estimating low 500s) into the 6's, and in a wet dream, maybe 7's. Priority is the pump. I've asked around, read for hours on here, and have seen equal pos/neg reviews on hot rod and HO pumps, and personally feel that a Dragonfire or an equal caliber pump would be uneccesary for me. I've seen guys talk about SO pumps with "wire taps" (guessing thats referring to a box that requires tapping? comp box, etc?) and if that is a solid option, I'd assume save my money for other go fast parts. Next is building the head: polish, port, O-ring, surface, springs, valves, rocker arms, studs, so I can open that gate wide open. At what point does the bottom end need to see some modifications? As far as a cam goes, I understand it increases compression, but don't really understand how that effects hp and the differences btw camming a single vs. twin setup? would like to keep the truck a single (possibly an 84mm in future) but without towing, what benefit would twins bring to the party? I titled this thread so those of you blessed with a larger noodle than me might give some insight on different fueling and air options. Like I said, reprioritizing my build and would like some insight before I start throwing money away. Thanks guys, any help, insults, and insight appreciated.

With a wiretap box it'd put in the 550-600 hp range with what you have. If it was me I'd try some higher quality injectors like 7x12s 6x13s or maybe some machs and get a wiretap box. A Edge Comp or Tst would work great. 84mm is a huge single you'd never be able to light it without a ppump.

^^^ He's right, wire tap box and you'd be close to 600 with everything else you have. I made 628 hp with SOVP, mach 6's (220's), Edge juice wire tapped, and D-tech 62/65 over s475. And have a few other friends that have made 608-670 with a wire tapped SOVP.
So it's definitely possible with an SOVP, no need for a hot rod/lightening/dragon fire VP.

As far as compounds... you ask what benefit would they bring to the party? They bring ALL the benefits. HeII they THROW the party haha. Quicker spool, more total CFM, better cooling ability, massive drop in drive pressure, ability to still tow with bigger power under your belt, and the cherry on top, they sing to you. Once you go compounds, you'll wonder how you ever went without.

Now for the top end, if your head gasket isn't blown, I'd leave the head on. Leave valves and rocker arms our, no need to change them for the power you want. Studs and valve springs. When you pop the gasket, then port and polish and o ring. Push rods are 50/50. I have em, but a lot of guys will argue to leave them as the weak link. Better to bend one then blow the engine. But for 6-700 hp, you shouldn't run much risk of either with a proper build.

Alright, so with a new SOVP, tap it with a comp box, and theoretically I should be set as far as fuel goes...right? And Red, how does the Fletcher (or any larger cam) impact the overall performance? If you mentioned it, I missed it. From what I understand, it basically turns up the compression so you have the potential to make more power, not get more power from simply installing one. I'm sure I butchered it, but I really have no idea and when considering my options for a larger single, or possible twins, I'm just not savy on how a larger cam would help/hurt the overall performance and end goal.

A aftermarket cam will not increase compression. It will give you a little quicker spool up and lower EGTs. As far as a power increase, you get really nothing

^^^ tis true. Most cams will add maybe 20 hp, not they are not big power makers especially for drop in 188/210 cams like mine. They are more meant for quicker spool and dropping egt's.
