Fuel gauge?

What causes the low fuel light to come on? A sensor in the tank or does it come on when the gauge drops to a certain point? I am just curious because usually it comes on when I have about 4 gallons left and yesterday it came on and I drove a little bit and filled up and there was still 7 gallons in the tank. When does your low fuel light come on?

Yeah, most vehicles the light comes on at 2 gallons remaining. I wonder why mine is so odd
Were you on level ground when it came on?
It works off a float and because our tanks are very long being off level even a little bit is a big difference when you're low on fuel.

Yeah, Im pretty much always on level ground. And it comes on and stays on. You would think even if it came on because you were on a hill it would go off once you leveled out.
Just get fuel when you hit 1/4 tank then you never see the light..........

:lol3:that would mean I have to fill up more often and I don't like that.

Then again it would seem like Im spending less on fuel:thumbsup
My light comes on different times on mine, like when im towing heavy, it will come on sooner. I just figured the computer was reading my fuel usage was greater and it comes on earlier then it does when im not towing anything. I dnot know for sure tho!!
I would assume it works off the float but then again, it may be set up to slightly anticipate fuel need based on the lie-o-meter....

I would like to know as well...
