Yep--change it. Mine was at zero at something like 8K miles. It won't stop running but the Fuel Filter Gauge is IMO accurate and intelligent (unlike the fuel mileage gauge). When I replace my filters (both), I got in the truck and purged the system as detailed in the manual and when I started the truck the filter gauge was at 99%. THEN I reset it and it went to 100%. The filter gauges are smart and I would go with them.

Now the question is what is actually 0% left? I'm sure there is some safety factor built in but not sure how much. 1K mile? 2K miles?

Actually, the real question is why did your filter fill up so soon? Mine filled-up faster than most as well. I'm thinking about adding a filter between the tank and the frame mounted filter. A $15 Baldwin would go a long way compared to a set of filters that cost $100 when I got them off the net.

I am a bit surprised you only got 7K out of the filters.

I noticed that my fuel filter minder was dropping pretty fast, faster than my oil change minder. However I did have my vehicle flashed a few weeks back and even though the meter was not reset (still reading 3500+ miles since reset), it is showing far more fuel filter life. So I'm wondering if maybe an update is needed for the fuel filter minder? I have noticed that it's also counting down more slowly as well. So there is a difference there. I have TSB 18-018-13. I originally did this to change the shifting nature of my truck (which is improved over the original setting my truck had). Then I noticed the fuel minder had far more life in it (but wasn't fully reset). Maybe ask your dealership about this?

If they were intelligent as you say, you could reset the counter mid-life and it would drop right back down to where it was. It doesn't. Mine was reset with the DEF flash and it has tracked linearly since then, just as it did before (almost exactly in line with the oil life).

It's just a counter, based on load and RPMs most likely.

If the fuel filter is on a computer based interval, why does the diesel supplement maintenance schedule specify a 15,000 mile/12 month interval? Which do they expect us to follow?

At what percentage do they expect the filter to be replaced at? 0%? Both filters?

If it wasn't intelligent how would it have known that I put new filters in prior to resetting the gauge.

The guidance in the diesel supplement is just that - guidance. In the absence of the truck telling you to change the filter, you want to do it at least once a year or if you accumulate mileage faster at least every 15,000 miles.

Order of precedence:

(1) Truck indicator
(2) Time
(3) Mileage

I had just dropped the truck off at the dealer for check engine light and a reflash took care of it.hope I do get more filter life.
