Im on the road, its pouring down rain, the campground won't allow you to work on your truck, so I'm at the mercy of the dealership for service.

Not proud to say that I just lightened my wallet by $220.00 to have both fuel filters changed out. DANG! I miss my garage. Being on the road full-time isn't cheap. I'm going to have to figure out a better way to do this, and oil changes myself on the road.

When I was younger before I had 2 nickles to rub together, I did all the service in a clam shell, or gravel parking lot, but now at 57, I may have to give it a try again, or quit en about service costs. Lol! Well maybe not laughing. ;-)>

So relatively speaking, it cost you another $120 +/- to get it done on the road. Every 15k miles, not the end of the world.... I do my own, but it would not kill me if I was on the road and had to pay a dealer to do it.

Wont allow you to work on your truck? BS!!! Lived in an apartment building that had that rule. Sorry but quick maintenance is something they had to live with. Fluids, filters, and flats all got changed weather they liked it or not.

I have just under 10k on the truck, but didn't want to take a chance of a clogged filter out in the middle of nowhere. Just being safe.

I haven't been to one rv park, or koa cg that will let you change oil or filters. They actually charge you extra if you want to wash your truck. Its bs, but if you dont want to get kicked out, and have to hitch up and move, thats how you have have to play.

Its also not just the money, its also the quality of work that you pay for. Or should I say lack of it. Last oil change and diff service left me with a truck that had oil and gear lube dripping everywhere, and a un-planned stop along road to tighten down the rear diff cover, that didnt get done right, and also to check the level. Today I can smell diesel fuel from 5 ft away from my truck. When the rain stops, I'll have to go underneth it and clean it with brake clean. Its just a pita.

220 sounds like a deal. I've read on this forum of some people paying almost 400 to get there's changed.

Hit up some of the regional pages on here next time and I bet you can find a place to do your work.

If you find yourself near Houston I would be glad to help you out as I am sure others would, tools and a driveway at least.

Won't the military bases let you work on your vehicles in a bay? My B-I-L in Air Force and uses the base shop all the time.

If that option isn't available, I would load the tool box and find a Walmart parking lot.

Thanks for all the help and ideas. All good ones. And wixthedog, thanks for inviting me to use your garage, but by rhe time we finished drinking all that beer afterwards, probably would be cheaper to go get it done. Ha ha. No really thanks fellas. Im just going to have to get used to this way of life. After doing my own work for 40+ years, I can't stand to let anybody else touch my truck, or anything else for that matter. On the road tomorrow, and sometime late next week I will be going across Nevada hwy 50. The loneliest hwy. So they say, with what looks like at least 4 maybe 5 steep passes to climb, at not many services.:)>

I had the same situation in my Marina, Dry Storage (on Trailer). They did not allow any kind of "DIY" at all. Obviously it's understandable as it's easy to picture how out-of-control it could potentially get. Hey, it's their sandbox, I'm just playing in it.:confused013: So when I needed to do basic maintenance, had to pull it out and take it off-site.
