I noticed when cold my truck would leak fuel from what looked like that back of the fuel filter. So I just figured my filter was dirty (which it was) and when it was cold it built up pressure and leaked out. So I put a new fuel filter in it with new o rings. Got the truck running after cracking fuel lines multiple times and drove it home, now it is constantly dripping fuel. I work at a Dodge dealer and had one of the techs who knows cummins very well trying to figure it out and we can't seem to figure out exactly were it's coming from. We took the canister off and put it back on to make sure we had it seated properly. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what they did to fix it. Thanks I need to get his figured out ASAP as I am taking the truck up north in a few days.

Did you open the bleeder screw on the top? If so, there are two designs used. The original that came with the truck is bad, it is weak and prone to leaking. There is a replacement that is much better.

I did the drain valve on the front side of the filter but nothing on top. It seems like it is leaking worse today. It looks like its coming from the o ring on the top of the cannister. Not sure if something is bent or there is a burr that is keeping it from sealing. I really dont want to take it apart again as we had a hell of a time getting it started and my batteries are weak.

If the tech "knows cummins very well' he would know there are at least five rubbercoated washer/seals holding the banjo fittings to the top of the filter housing. Any one of them could be bad, not to mention the possiblity of a cracked line or fitting, or you might not have installed the filter correctly. Clean it off and sprinkle some baby powder on the top, then start it up. The wet spot will pop right out visually.

We'll we found it. There is a small crack in the filter housing. I spent most the day calling around every junk yard in Michigan. They don't sell just the fuel filter housing. They sell a kit to replace the whole assembly and that retails for $1,500. So I was going to take it to a tig welder but I'm thinking about having that fuel filter kit over nighted here. Thanks for that link that is a huge relief. Is that a easy set up to throw on?

There has to be something wrong with this, 1,500??? No way, you can buy an injection pump for that.

They no longer sell the just the canister. Now you have to buy the whole deal (canister, top piece, filter). It's 900 my cost, $1,500 retail.

I believe you, I just find that cost to be nothing short of insane. Any chance of getting a remote filter system?

The Geno's Garage kit is a '96 filter & housing. There isn't any mods to the fuel lines required, it is a bolt on replacement. However, the ad doesn't mention the gaskets, so ask if they are included. Cummins sells them, maybe Dodge does too, idk.
