First post ever so here goes.

Im thinking of attemping to replace front diff bearings, pinion, side bearings the whole works thats in the bearing kit, seals whatever else is in there. Got bad vibration in front end. Hubs, u and L ball joints, axel u joints rotors pads all new. Been told got a bad bearing in the front diff. I got almost no exp. but if the guy at the dealership can do it I should be able to figure it out, or maybe not. Trying to find out how difficult and tech. it is. what special tools needed and such. Got quote for $700 to $800. Seems fair but why not figure it out myself? Its my first cummins and dont plan on selling it any time soon or buying anything different on the next one, so might as well get to know the thing now. tell me if Im biting off more than I can chew. Thanks for any suggestions.

It can be tricky and need special tools and some know how..I did ball joints, axle U joints and trac bar bushings but would not do the differential..it can cost you more than you save sometimes dood:shock:

Before you go to all this trouble, consider this ,If the frequency of this vibration is speed specific.

Please see where I'm going with this.Your driveshaft spins at a much higher rpm than the axles, which being
at the axis of rotation turn relatively slowly.

This "bad" vibration is MOST likely to come from the driveshaft, it could be and most likely is, bent or a U
joint is hooped or something.

Your bearings and whatnot are very well protected in
the differential,as well as well lubricated, not the likely
source of a vibration.

I would not spend my money chasing this wild goose,
you should not either.

I second Kevin,I am a ASE master tech for 21 years now and I have never seen the bearings inside of a diff. cause a vibration, its Most likely something in your front driveshaft, lift the vehicle on a lift and check the driveshafts while spinning at hwy. speeds, thats what we do here at my shop:agree2:

if there is no leaks from the front diff pinion seal? i won't mess with bearings except as very last resort. drop the diff. cover and inspect for any metal cuttings/flakes in the lube. wipe clean. inspect ring pinion wear pattern and any signs of side movement in carrier. change the lube put in a full syn 7w90

sounds like a parts thrower dealer shop

Dodge Death Wobble?
any lift kit?

worn out shocks?

worn out steering stabilizer?

tie rod ends?

size of tires?
what type of wheels?
balanced last and how?
aligned last and how? suggest a 4 wheel alignment at a shop that specializes in 4wdr trucks.
