I am attempting to do my upper, lower balljoints and wheel bearings, but I noticed my front brake caliper mounting bolts were badly rounded prior to removing them. I was unsure of the size, but an 18mm fit the best. I tried to remove these rounded bad boys, but they are too badly stripped.

Now? What are my options to remove these? I was going to order new bolts, then cut these off with a cut off wheel. I would like to hear some better ideas prior to attempting this. I have a large easy out, but not sure if this is the route to go.

Thank you,
Keith

Sears (craftsman) has bolt-outs for damaged or rounded bolts . They have worked great for me in the past .

its gonna be tough the bolts are torqued real good. if all else fails cut the heads off to releave the pressure and use some vise grips on the studs, if there rusty heat them a bit.

are you using a 6pt socket? if a 6pt cant get them off something is drastically wrong!
and if they are that rounded drop a size and hammer the socket on

Are you saying that the head is rounded and the socket spins around the head, or the threads are stripped and the bolt just spins in the caliper mount?

If the head is rounded go to a smaller size socket, even go from metric to standard. You can also grind or file new sides if needed

This is what I had to do plus some heat. Worked really well.

The damned things are torqued to 250lb/ft.!!!:banghead:

Any advise from you guys to getting these bolts out without stripping the heads or threads? I've tried the impact gun, and a medium breaker bar without luck. And I have a torn piston boot, so I need to rebuild the caliper.

Apply any heat yet?

Nope. I don't have a torch and I don't weld. Wish I had that skill. Would a propane torch heat it up enough? And do I heat up the bolt or the caliper bracket?
