im rebuilding my 03 5.9 and going to be putting it back in the truck in a few weeks. my question is how can i prime the oil system before startup? or is the assembly lube going to be good enough untill it receives oil pressure? thank you in advance!
You could use a hand pump and t into the turbo feed line port on the oil cooler that's a little more work than necessary you can just unplug the ECM and crank the engine in the truck for a bit and check oil pressure with a mechanical gauge screwed in the block the engine won't fire without the ECM hooked up
i was thinking about that or just leaving the valve cover off, putting the oil in accrost all of the top of the head and hold off on plugging in the injectors and cranking until i see oil come up through the pushrods (crank for 15 sec then letting it set for a few to keep from burning up the starter and place a box fan on the floor aimed at the starter for a constant air flow to help in keeping it cool.
