Free mods turbo

All the time i've spent reading/trolling/wasting away my time reading about the free upgrades, i've NEVER seen a suggested turbo.

I know a turbo isn't free, but i would think that with all the money you save on the free mods, a turbo would be very possible. Plus i think it would be a good idea. I know with the free mods, the stock turbo can get out of its use, and the engine can get very hot, especially if you disable the waste gate.

theirs not really much you can do with the stock turbo as far as 'free mods' go.

You can drill out the wastegate hole so that it vents all 6 cylinders and you can actually control boost when your moving alot of fuel

You can also clean up the turbine casting a bit to help flow
i see yer point there man:thumbsup:

how about up gradin to a 24 valve turbo, one out of a manual tranny truck?:D

oh yeah, i fergot to say how much i HATE y'all for the free mods....:banghead::banghead::banghead::lol4:

same turbo on the 24v vp trucks other than the autos which used an HY35, basically the same thing with an even crappier (smaller) turbine housing
no no i didn't mean free turbo upgrades haha

i was actually referring to buying an upgraded turbo.

Their are HX35/40 hybrids available and they are somewhat reasonably priced compared to someof the other turbos on the market

Gotta love emissions! 01-02 autos got the lovely hy35 9cm, the rest of them got the same ol hx35 12cm

Could you elaborate some on drilling out the wastegate hole and cleaning up the turbine casting?
The wastegate flapper is on the back side of the turbo. The exhaust is diveded totally into 2 banks, cylinders 123/456. the wastegate only vents the rear bank of cylinders, thus, with alot of fuel the first bank of cylinders can easily overspeed the turbo.

Basically what you want to accomplish is venting both banks. You can either ram a drill bit down the wastegate hole and drill through the divider, or i have also seen guys grind the divider a bit between the manifold and turbo.

As for cleaning up the casting, its just that. same as doing a port+polish on a head, you want to get rid of any casting flaws and polish that sucker up so their is the least ammount of restriction and turbulence
what are the specs on the hybrid? is it similiar in size to a 62 series turbo?
High Tech Turbo

You can buy the wheel and comp housing from them to 'DIY' or get one already done in various configs, but the center section does require some machining and the assembly should be balanced
oh so then it is slightly smaller than a 62. would a truck have any trouble spinning a 62 series turbo with just the free mods?
i got a HTT 64 and with what i got it takes a second for it to light it on the street
yeah but i'm betting once she lights it goes like hell haha
yea it moves...cant wait to get my timing done
have to let me know how it runs after the timing gets done.

with the free mods + the aftermarket turbo what would HP and torque be? 450/900?
