Hey gang!
I'm going to look at a Ford 675 backhoe tomorrow, appears to be in decent condition. It has 3200 hours but has a newer motor. I was unable to talk to the husband to find out the reason for the newer motor but Ill find out eventually.

Any typical things to look at on these fords and how well do they hold up? I've ran Case equipment for quite a few years.... hopefully the controls are the same:thud:

Thanks
Ian

edit: here is the ebay auction

theyre good machines and will run forever, but the hydraulics get very weak after a while

i like the older deeres myslef, especially for clearing out trails in the woods, its just a more comfortable machine and seems to drive better

bump, going to look at it @ 530, comes with a 16" and 30" bucket, he wants 17,300 for it. the motor was replaced prior to his purchase and he has had it for 2 years. He bought to do some yard work/clearing.

the guy said that he would work the price if I was to come back and do some work for him if he needed it

Make sure the pins aren't worn out on the hoe. Put the hoe on the ground and shift the weight around with it. You'll see worn out pins if stuff starts shifting around. That means it hasn't been greased very well. Other than that if the hoe digs well, and has good power while digging you should be fine.

^^^

Like said above, make sure the boom isnt going to fall off of it and as long as it makes noise and moves around your pretty much set!

Unless you wanted to spend some time there and pull the hyd filters to check for signs of a pump going out...

I was able to run it today and it fires right up!! no hesitation or smoke! the guy is super nice and I dug a couple stumps out in his back field. and I ran it at 1/2 throttle and had no problems even with the 36" bucket (I measured it myself to make sure) the hoe had enough power to pick up the front of the tractor when pulling out the stump with the hoe.

Overall its in great shape, booms and bushings seem tight for its age, the body panels are good and straight, interior isnt trashed (seat needs new cover) and it has most of the lights in working condition, as well as the heater and windshield wipers. Rear tires are 75% fronts are 40-50%

The bad:
  • The windshield is broken (see pic) along with the drivers side back glass was broken and missing the latch assembly (see window pic)
  • the spot where the pin would go to keep the boom from swinging back and forth while driving down the road is broken in half...... kinda concerned how this happened... but I guess one time will do it if you leave the pin in and crank the power then start moving...
  • the loader bucket controls are fine up and down but dump and roll back are hard... almost like they need adjustment or maybe starting to stick?!? Im not quite sure.
  • Tach doesnt work so Im not sure if the hour meter works....

Asking $17300, but he would sell it for $16500 if I did some more work for him, extremely nice guy but just lacks ambition seems like. Hes going into retirement, selling the 10 acres and buying a home with 2 acres and a motorhome to travel in.

deal?

I would say the price is a little high for some of the things you have to do to it and then haul it to his house and do work for him whenever he wants... seems like a little to much for that only cutting you 800 and you still have to do work for him.. its your call man!

If the tach is not working, it either is not hooked up (this also powers the hour meter) or the alternator is not charging. Just trust me on this, I just fixed the one at work.

BTW I still think the price is high...

If 4x4 is good, and the extendahoe is still tight, I would say $15,000.00 tops...There is a lot of work to do to put it at your standards.

That thing would go for about 10g at the auctions out here if even that high :$:

I couldn't go back to a GP front bucket after having the 4n1,how heavy is the Ford for transport, are you planning on using it commercially,or?Some of your observations are consistent with abuse and or high hours, the hydraulic pump sounds good.I have a case 580 with the cummins 4bt,4x4,extndahoe,4n1,good machine, only ever broken a couple of hoses, keep her greasy

The price is low seems like for something like this here in Michigan, Hes 10 miles away so doing work woudlnt be a issue and I have access to a semi & lowboy if needed.

I know the tach runs the hour meter but I just dont know how long its not moved is the only problem.

It will be for personal use, digging stumps, moving a little dirt, pushing snow when it drifts over the road, noting real serious

the dump/rollback control is a bit concerning.
