I was browsing the Cummins Powerstore and noticed they list two Fleetguard oil filters for the 3rd gens (there are also two listed for the 2nd gen 24v’s). The 3rd gen oil filters were as follows:

LF3972 Fleetguard Oil Filter $ 9.50
LF16035 Fleetguard Oil Filter $14.50

What’s the difference? Why is one $5 more than the other?

Napa isn't near the quality of a fleetguard oil filter. And the Stratapore filter, couple posts above, goes down to 10 microns i beleive...

The paper one is 35 microns absolute (98.7% efficiency's). The synthetic one is 25 microns absolute...

7620-paper media, 20 microns
7620XE-synthetic media, 14 microns
Both of those napa ratings are nominal which is 50% efficient, so not near as good as they look.. their absolute ratings are probably close to double the nominal rating.

The fleetguard stratapore is an excellent filter, thou the best filter available is the amsoil EaO080, it is a synthetic filter with an absolute rating of 15 microns.

I run the standard fleetguard but I've got a Frantz Bypass Filter to get the remaining junk! :w:

Frantz Filter

Toilet paper roll is really cheap but does a excellent job of filtering the oil down...:w:

Just got an email from fleetguard. The stratapore LF16035 is 60% efficient at 10microns and 100% efficient at 30 microns. I'll write the same email to Wix about the Napa 7620 and 7620XE.

Non-Stratapore (normal cellulose) filters are rated at 35 micron at 98.7% efficiency. Stratapore filters are 25 micron at 98.7% efficiency. AMSOIL/Donaldson Endurance filters are 15 mircon at 98.7%. To get finer than that, go to a bypass filtration system.

I don't think you will get one from wix, I have tried on their fuel filters... which meet the micron number required for the HPCR, but not the efficiency... A 7 micron fuel fiter isn't the requirement, a 7 micron absolute... But Napa/Wix dont care, just as long as you buy there filter.
