I just purchased a 2007 3500 4x4 DRW from a dealer out of state, and my understanding is that i need to have a smog check before I can register it in California.

I'm not clear on exactly what has been done on the truck, but it has an XRT Pro tuner installed.

The tuner reads a P1509 code, and my scan tool shows no codes, but does have a yellow instead of green emissions light with the CAT symbol blinking.

I suspect that means my catalytic convertor has been deleted or is not present.

Did the 2007 models from other states have catalytic convertors?

Do you guys think my truck will pass smog? Is their anything obvious I should look at before taking it in? If it doesn't pass, is it immediately reported to California, or can I try and take it to a few different places, fix the problem myself, etc.?

Thanks,
Mark

Thats just weird it has a the yellow light on for the catalytic converter, if it was deleted with the h&s tuner it shouldnt have any cel's on. Look under your truck and see if the dpf filters are present, they will be right under your passenger side door. If they are not there you will probably need them, or register your truck in another state lol

Sorry, make that a P1507 code, poor idle.

It appears the tuner is configured with DPF removed, and both the connectors to the EGR are plugged in.

I don't see anything but straight pipe between the muffler and the engine bay.

Sooo...sounds like i'm in for some expensive repairs....unless I find someone who works at a shady smog check place...do those exist in California anymore?

Any codes and if the emission components do not communicate when they do a OBD. You'll fail. If any of your emission equipment are missing. You'll fail visual part. Any aftermarket mods needs a CARB sticker attached. So breakdown of the testing:
- visual
- opacity
- OBD (not sure if they can read the 2007.5+ CanBus yet)

I would make sure exactly what was done to the truck. If deleted then ask the dealer if they still have the exhaust and EGR system if deleted.

Also it's a big fine for smog testing shops to look the other way. CARB website displays proudly of thier busts on those shady shops. Not worth it to the owner of the shop.

You need all the emissions stuff on the truck. You need the stock exhaust... The DPF (big), NOx adsorber (smaller), and DOC/commonly called a cat (downpipe). Then you need the EGR. Any engine mods need to be CARB approved, and should have a CARB exemption sticker (air intake etc). All the emissions indicators need to be ready (green on your scan tool). Pretty sure you can't have any codes.

FYI if the H&S is reading a code and the scan tool isn't it's probably a pending code. I ran into that and H&S told me they read pending codes too (and apparently my scan tool does not).

By law they have to tell you it has been deleted. If they did and you Accepted it that way you are on your own dime. May be you can find somebody that will loan you theres to use to pass the test. Just a thought.

I was going to say the same thing, If the dealer sold me a truck that was deleted and didn't tell me and I had no clue about deletes the dealership would be paying one way or the other.

The dealer violated federal law when he sold you a non-compliant emission vehicle. All states must comply with federal regulations when selling.

You've got a refund coming.

If and when the dealer restores the emission equipment,it must weighed also in addition to smogged.

Show the selling dealer this post and hint you're looking into a lawsuit. You'll get the emission equipment installed or a refund. If they legalize it,make sure it has no codes. What a bunch of dopes.

The dealer did not tell me.

Is it certain that a 2007.5 from another state would have these emission components?
Every 6.7 Dodge Cummins has emissions equipement on it when it left the factory.

:agree2: It is a federal law, all vehicles sold are required to have the emissions equipment on them. I know this because I had enough dealers tell me this when I was looking a trading my truck. They all wanted my stock equipment with the trade in.

It came from an actual Dodge franchise dealership.

I just called them and asked the guy in the service department if he knew the truck had the catalytic convertor removed. He said yes....

Most dealer's are on top of it, but depending where you bought the truck, they mite not have looked into it too much. Maybe they were excited to sell the last guy his new truck soo much, they just looked over the one you bought on the outside. If they havent ran into anyone deleting a truck in there area they may not know its even possible to do so. I talk to quite a few dealer around here that never had any issue's with guy's deleting so when i pulled in and showed them what i done they were shocked. They didnt know any of the law's on it because it was never an issue before that they needed to look in on. Most of they're inventory was gas vehicle's and 1 or 2 diesel's that they couldnt even tell you how they work. So you may need to call chrysler and explain to them where you bought the truck and you would like to have the following part's included on your truck so that you can pass a smog inspection, tell them what the truck was missing when you bought it, tell them it was your first diesel truck etc...

What about under the hood? Is the EGR valve, cooler and cross pipe feeding the intake there or have all the emissions equipment been deleted? If not you are looking at a small fortune to have it replace. I would make the dealer put it all back on (at their cost) if they say no, do not say another word…turn around and get to a lawyer. Put him on retainer and have him send a letter to the dealer, they will be glad to fix I then…or replace you truck…

I would also ask for something in writing from Chrysler / selling dealer stating they are aware and responsible of this being sold with missing emissions equipment in case the OP is pulled over & fined in the state of california.

When you do get them to pay for the new stuff, keep your tuner, that way to can keep deleting it in between check's, and the dealer wont be able to void your warranty because it already has that tuner's footprint on your ecm.

Well if they replace his part's they're almost gonna have to make sure his warranty is in tact. Unless they give him a new ecm which they're gonan be mad about buying a new emission system for an old truck so they will only spend what is needed. This deleting talk is down the road once he gets everything worked out obivously wishing him the best:thumbsup:
