who is running an external wastegate setup? i need to lower my drive pressures and have decided to go with this route. pictures would be ideal, otherwise please give me info on the setup to go with on the wastegate. spring pressure, flanges, etc. any help is greatly appreciated!
tial 38mm seems to be the common choice. are there pros and cons of a larger one such as a 40+mm?

yes, the turbo is a 64/65/14. i have the pop off vaves to open the soonest. so i'm only running about 62psi max. at that my drive pressures are at 80ish. i'm going with a tial 38mm wastegate. just looking for some help on the setup and what spring pressures to go with inside the wastegate. help from people with external wastegate setups would be awesome!!!!
How much boost is the primary making?
If your top turbo is making most of the total boost, then dp will be high.
When is your wg set to open on the 64?

haven't checked yet, i have to plumb in a fitting on my pretty porn star black piping and don't want to ruin the finish:confused013:it's just the factory wastegate...45?? i know for sure though i'm overspooling the top turbo...what else would it be? it's not the biggest top turbo and i'm running lots of fuel.
Well that's your problem.
Get a reading on the primary asap.
Lengthen the wastegate rod so it will open earlier and releive some pressure from the top charger and send it to the bottom.
You want it opening at 20-28psi, just enough to get the primary going.
Have the WG open sooner and your dp will be in check.

i'm actually doing it today. i don't have access to air, so i'm going to a local diesel performance shop and i'm going to do it there.
i also found a great setup for an external wastegate...:thumbsup: i'll wait and see what this does for me first.

a couple threads down there's "my new twin setup from redline diesel"...check his kit he has pics of. they have a spacer in between the turbo and manifold that has a pipe and wastegate attached to it.

External w/g's are bigger, thus flowing more and reducing drive pressure. The stock wastegate isn't adaquate in a twins setup
