Are there any external features of the Dana 70 axles that identify it as a limited slip or posi ?

Something that I could ask people to look for that are parting their trucks out on Craigslist.

I am looking for new gears and there seem to be a lot of people
parting out trucks.

If the tag is still on the cover plate, you can take the number and a good driveline shop will be able to tell. That tag is bolted to the cover, put there by Dana. By referencing it, you can get all the information you need. There are no external features that will identify a posi from a open.

Open the hood then look straight up.

If the sticker doesn't specify limited slip, can I assume that means I have an open diff? Mine just says Spicer 70.

Jack both rear tires off the ground, put the transmission in neutral and rotate one side. If the other side spins in the opposite direction it is an open diff.
