I searched a little bit and didn't find the answers I'm looking for. I'm looking for a turbo-back straight pipe.

First off, what's the difference between 4" and 5"? And no, don't say 1"

Which one is louder? Which one will cool the turbo more? And mainly, what do they sound like? All I've heard are some crappy sound clips on YouTube.

I'm thinking about going with the 4", just for the fact that if I don't like the sound, I can add a Aero 4040. I do know that Aero makes one for the 5", but it looks large and 'quiet'.

For you AeroTurbine experts, how does the 4040 compare to the resonated 4040XL sound and loudness wise?

As it stands now, I will probably go with FBD for the 5" or MBRP for the 4" (I didnt see where FBD made a 4"). Are there any other companies out there that are truely worth the extra cost? I'm trying to stay under $500 shipped and welded (by me).

from listening to the truck around here that have 5 in they are loud, but from what i have learned is that you only need 5 in for more than 500 hp. i have pinnacle 4 inch and i love it, its loud but not annoying loud. imo!

I'll see if i can help as an owner of 4" TB Straight pipe and my buddy's got 5"..

My 4" TB is LOUD! Period. No in cab drown, no hwy annoyance. I made this from purchasing a delete pipe for muffler and had PETERBUILT cut me 42" pipe to replace kitty, out to 6x18" tip.

My buddy's 5" is quieter then my 4" at idle and DEEPER at WOT. Again no drone, no hwy annoyance.

You get drone when you start dumping ANYWHERE under the cab or run stacks.

Are you haulin' anything?! I hope i paint a clear pic in your head. Really, to each his own, all personal preference with these types of threads.

I straight piped mine (4"), and it was annoying. Way too much drone and I put my stock setup back on the next day. I'm waiting on the Aero 4040XL to arrive next week. I am excited to put it on. I assume you pull some since you have a 3500. Like said before, 5" is not needed. I've read that 5" actually takes away some of your low end torque.

I have 4" straight pipe. Some drone when accelerating pretty hard, but rolling 70 down the hwy is pretty quiet on inside but LOUD on outside. BTW got local muffler shop to cut out cat and muffler and weld up 42" peice all for $60. Even got to keep stock exhaust.

Bump!

I will be hauling my Bronco around when she's finished. But that won't be too often. Other than that, it will be just everyday truck stuff, runs to the scrap yard, or helping buddies with 1/2 tons tow/haul things.

Thanks for all the help so far!

Drone in the cab doesn't matter to me. Work doesn't allow me to take enough time off to do any long trips. Besides, I've been driving my Toyota pickup for the past year where the exhaust dumps at my feet right out of the Cat. My F150 before that had gutted cats and a 40-Series that dumped 2" behind the cab under the bed. I'm used to it :hehe:

Anyone have experience with the 4040 or 5050 (non-XL)?
I guess I'm starting to lean towards the 4" as of now...
