My dad has a 97 cummins with about 160,000 miles on it and it is completely stock. He is wanting to put an exhaust brake on it because he tows a stock trailer around alot on steep grades. He thinks you have to change the exhaust valve springs when you do an exhaust brake. Is that true or can you just put on the exhaust brake and be fine. Also what exhaust brakes do you guys prefer. Thanks for any help. Sorry for the long thread.

The banks kit is well known. You have to replace springs if you do the heavy duty kit which has 60 psi of brake pressure. The light duty has 35 psi brake pressure.

Pac Brake PRXB. works great and kit comes with lots of extras too. I also would reccomend getting the shifter switch too.(it mounts on the stick) their customer service is awesome. I installed myself and called with lots of questions. I chose the Pac Brake because i fugure if full size Semi's use them, they probably know what they are doing.
