So I have a 2016 2500 with the 6 speed and I drive with my exhaust brake on at all times. The truck has 71k miles and is deleted and tuned with ez lynk. Im unsure where the tunes are from because I bought the truck from a dealer with the tuner in the glove box and I was really pleased with how it ran so I saw no need to change anything. I’ve done my research but most write ups I can find are people with automatics and the TC lock up issue. So I can hear my exhaust brake engage but it doesn’t slow the truck like it used to. Hardly at all honestly. Up until today the EB has worked flawlessly. Every once in a while it will work like normal but it’s rare. Also the engagement is the same whether it’s in full exhaust brake mode or automatic. The turbo spools flawlessly, has tons of power and no more black smoke than usual. I imagine there could be something with carbon build up that needs to be cleaned or something along those lines so if that is the case where should I start? This is my first 6.7 so I’m fairly green to these things and any input would be greatly appreciated.

He has a 6-speed manual from what I can tell. I would be checking the quarter inch back pressure sensor line/tubing from the manifold to the sensor if he is still using it as a reference with his tuning.

I gotta be honest. I don’t really understand your question, if the exhaust brake is in-fact engaging, as in you hear it, it means the veins are being manipulated. The veins changing position is what creates the pressure to slow you down, so either you push the button and think it’s engaging due to the dummy light when in actuality it isn’t or they are changing position enough to create a noise change but not enough to reduce speed like you are used to. When my actuator failed it sounded like it was on even when I was trying to accelerate, produced almost no boost. EIther way, if it’s not something in the tunes it sounds like a possible actuator issue?????

I’ll look into the tubing tomorrow 60, thanks. And Kodi that’s exactly what I’m noticing. I can hear the sound but it’s not actually functioning correctly. It almost seems sometimes that it’s trying to build the back pressure to slow the truck but can’t quite get enough but most of the time it’s just the whistle and no actual effort to slow the truck.

Does your cluster not show the back pressure? I know mine will. Can you see what it says?

Hahaha and I’m the one always correcting my buddies. You did get me and I didn’t even think about it, and yes I explained it poorly,

Ok sorry I left you guys hanging, I’ve been very busy the past few days but it got to the point where sometimes I would get in the truck and the EB would work flawlessly and others it would be back to what it was before but today as I was coming down a hill, exhaust brake working just fine, as I got to the bottom of the hill and went to roll on the throttle the truck fell on its face and started blowing black smoke out the exhaust. The exhaust brake continued to run as I was giving it throttle and is basically stuck on now. I tried to turn it off on the dash and it still won’t turn off.

I would agree with him. Just a thought, plug up the EZ and datalog the turbo vane position A and D to confirm the actuator is not doing what its told to do. if the actuator values are similar you may have other issues as the computer is commanding an improper actuator position. I just replaced an actuator myself.
