$2500 for a bullet proof trany i want there number:shock:

the auto trans in a stock truck is not bad but they will not take alot of abuse if you are planning on modding the truck then you are gonna have to put some money in the trans but could probably get away with a TC and a VB and if you you go with a manual you will have to upgrade the clutch so its more of a prefernce thing in my opinion

If they will give you a bulletproof warranty and they are close to you, do it, do it , do it.

There is a lot and I mean a lot of profit in building a transmission even using quality parts, so he may be treating you extra nice. If he says he will still do it, don't overlook a quality T/C and a performance valve body. You may end up spending another $700 on top of the rebuild.

If he will give a bulletproof warranty at that price, do it. I truly believe that he can as there is an enormous amount of profit in tranny rebuilds even when using high dollar parts. Don't overlook a quality T/C and an upgraded valve body. They will add to the price but are required.

I have about $3,200 in mine and i havn't tested it's outer limits. After spending that kind of coin at 85K which was unexpected I am very careful now.

I tow heavy when I do (in excess of 26K) and one nite (tired) I neglected to back out of it on a long steep grade. Even though I had guages I wasn't watching and Poof! The TQ ballooned and took the tranny with it.

Sorry for the double post. Still tired I guess.

I know where there is a 96 ext. cab 4x4 dually with a built tranny (georand bros) billet shaft, flex plate, big turbo, injectors, dv's, 3rd gen track bar, bd steering stabilizer, new tires, ball joints, etc.. etc.. etc... it's 11k

The tranny in that truck was 4kish or better. Mine was over 4k. But if you have a good auto, you would be just fine towing. If you are buying a stock truck, just budget an extra 4k for the tranny if you are going to turn it up. They will go out

where are you located?

i don't know if it's on craigslist or not. I think he put it on there. But if you are not close to KY then it may be a little bit too far of a drive for you. But if you drove it, you would like it :)

Don't be afraid of the auto transmission if taken care of and engine in stock form it will last a long time. I would be more concerned about buying a highly modified truck, they do that for a reason. My 96 has 2000 miles and I tow some. I have just installed a billet TC and transgo VB kit.
