Hey ya'll, I know that this question has probably already been answered but I cant find any threads that seem to talk about the specific problem I’m having... So here’s what I’ve got. My dad has a 99' Cummins, and his starts as soon as you turn the key...My 03' on the other hand does not. It never fails to start but has a little more hesitation than I think it should. On top of that I have a Erratic idle. Recalibrated the APPS and it sets the RPM at about 750 at first but after a few seconds it plains out at about 800. No big deal but, once you drive it, come to a stop with the clutch in the RPM’s rise to around 1250-1300 and sometimes comes back down-sometimes not... while its at the high RPM idle it sounds like it has an intermittent skip... its like skip skip smooth skip skip...etc.. after the Apps Recalibration it was better for the first couple times but now its back... Checked the CPS wires around the AC comp, like that tech thread said to but they had that plastic flex wire conduit stuff around everywhere that would contact anything, so I don’t think its the CPS Wires. Truck runs good down the road. Sometimes the power is better then others... Its like the timing gets a little off. I don’t know. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

excessive injector return can cause your problem. the rail has to build up enough pressure to start the engine. might also explain the weird idle. any smoke on start up?

I am having a similar problem. Mine idles great but it sometimes is hesitant to start and its power is very inconsistent. Sometimes it runs great sometimes its a dog. Its almost like its choking on its own fuel. I need to get some gauges so I know whats going on.

Its def not an internal part like a piston... Im sure its electrical or fuel just dont know what. No smoke at start up. Changing the fuel filter...and adjusting the APPS again. Ill let ya'll know what happens.

I have a buddy that used to have a truck like yours and he took it in and dodge told him that they had problems with a few that year model, long story short the cam had started to eat itself up, they changed the cam and he sold the truck shortly after.:$:

Ok both my 2003s have a hard start sometimes but with tst delete plug on starts fine every time. But I think rail pressure on mine always was the same hard start or not I will watch closer.
