I have trying to get rid of some vibration issues for some time now. I recently had some of "Equal" balaning media put into the tires and the vibration is pretty completly gone. I took the old truck up to 85 mph and it was the smoothest it has ever been. My advice to anyone running larger tires, especially ones that have some big sidewall is to get this balancing media put into your tires. Don't even bother with the traditional clip-on or tape-on lead weights.

Also, all the lead weights are removed from the rim so you are only running the balancing media.

I understand tire dealers that install 19.5s, 22.5's etc keep it in stock. At least my local guy does. He says the 19.5's and up are hard to balance, so he keeps the media in stock. I think it is a granular, small pellet type substance that is supposed to migrate to the lighter spots that need weight.

Most people complain about "equal" media especially the ones running the 22.5s. It just becomes a nightmare when moisture gets in the tires. But for some people, it works very good. You must be one of them!:thumbsup

I had the "Equal" beads put in at a local tire shop so I would think that most places nationwide would carry it or be able to get it. Just call around. The website for this stuff is: International Marketing, Inc. and it is about $20 for a 3 ounce bag.

Also, on another note the beads are granulated plastic, therefore they can not retain moisture like some other substances used. The only thing is to make sure that they put the proper amount in the tires based on the size of the tires. They put 5 ounces in mine.

I have Balance Masters in my D350. I think they are ceramic beads. 5oz for each stock tire. I wont put lead weights on a new tire ever again.

I have Centramatic Balancers on mine, but I left the tape weights on. I get a vibe right at 40mph, so I'm gonna pull the tapes weights when i rotate the tires.

My tires (35s) were pretty bad after about 5K without balncers...cleaned them up really well tho.

I won't use weights after this either.

I see a few of you running procomps, I understand that they are notoriously hard to get and keep balanced. So if it works for those of you running the procomps it should work wonders on other tires. Please keep us updated on this thread on how this stuff works over the long term.

So you're saying that the amount used is based strictly on the size of the tire? I run 35s also but Im mounting up some bead locks. Im wondering if I can just buy 20oz and do it myself.

The "Equal" brand balancer had to be the worst stuff I ever used.
It will, over time, absorb moisture and clump up into little balls that will no longer work.
I now use Counteract Balancing Beads.
These beads will not absorb moisture and have kept my tires balanced.
After I found out how much was recommended for my size tires, (38.5X14.50X17), I put a jack under each side to hold the tire up while removing the valve stem.
I then used a straw with a very small funnel to put the beads inside the tire with the valve stem at the bottom.
I actually used the beads from another set of tires and installed them into the next set when they were dismounted.

B Kirk ... Was having quite a bit of vibration above 50mph so took your advice and put a 4oz bag of Counteract Balancing Beads in each tire of my dually (removing all lead weights). Much smoother now even at higher speeds. Love this product so far.

Well I took the advice here and ripped off the lead weights and put in the Equal balancing media-looks like sand to me. This stuff is trash! Tires are worse than ever. Now what do I do. Gonna look stupid telling my tire guy to take off the tires, vacuum out the sand, then balance them. I did everything like was recommended and put in the proper amount.

Problem is you used Equal.:$:
It will, and does absorb moisture.:w:
The Counteract Balancing Beads will not absorb moisture.:thumbsup
I have removed it from older tires and reused it again in new tires.:woot:

Balancing

Finally someone with a brain and not some dumb a** from my local tire shops or dealer. There always saying " O those big tires you just have to let them wear in". I'm definitly going to give this a try, just wish i would've found out sooner ( 3 sets of tires 2 dealers 2 trucks because they wouldn't replace tires and not to mention countless trips to tire shops and money spent trying to solve problem):RANTIN::RANTIN::RANTIN::RANTIN:

I've used the Counteract beads as well in 2 sets of tires both used Military Michelins one set of XL 38 x 11 and one set of XML 38 x 13.5. These were EXTREMELY heavy tires and the counteract worked great, better than the tape weights on now with my Pro Comp X-treme A/T's.
They use the beads at most heavy commercial truck tire shops.
