Hey All,
I am new to this site and to the cummins.
That said, I bought A 2005 3500 4wd 190k miles
Truck runs fine starts fine pluged in or not (I tried both ways)
no smoke on start or driving that i can see.
I changed the oil when I got it, 1200 miles later 4qts low.
Has alot of blow by out of the tube under the truck, When you are sitting at a stop lihgt you can see the fog coming from drivers side wheel well.
Took it back to the lot I got it from ... Yeah, I am on my own.
Any thoughts b4 I replace/rebuild :confused013:?????

Thanks for any help

Welcome to the forum. I am sorry for your problem.

I think you have a dusted engine or it had a bad injector(s) which did some damage to a piston or rings. You should do a compression check before taking it apart.

You can get a manometer test as well. It sees how much blowby there is. You can search the subject to see what is needed. But with that much might just want to save the cash for the rebuild.

run a manometer test or find a pickup truck shop in your area that specializes in Dodge Cummins and have them run the test.

go to your state chapter forum and ask for the best private shop in your area.

stay away from dealer shops like black death. they are incompetent on any major repair on these engines. get your parts from a Cummins shop parts counter.

definitely worth rebuilding. may be lucky and just broken rings with no cyl damage yet.

any diesel in the oil? any fresh raw diesel smell in the exhaust?

DON'T drive it until diagnosed.

lots of these Dodge Cummins high mileage mistreated dogs out there setting on lots that the owners did not handle the fuel system filtration on correctly and did not monitor fuel quality closely.

buyer beware

follow the advice on this forum concerning fuel system filter upgrades and air filters.
