I imagine they just put their sniffer in the stack. They can test dual exhaust on cars. Emissions hose just has a "Y" to combine both exhuast pipes.

they do emissions testing on tractors in az also, so they have to have some setup for stacks...

Stack testing

Not sure how much luck you've had with this now, but I just got back from AZ DMV emissions testing with bad news. Last year I told them I would be modifying my truck with stacks and they said no problem. I added dual 3" stacks with dual cats and mufflers in the bed of my F250 V10 Gas. They said it was a safety hazard for the employee to get up there and I need to cut the exhaust loose and extend out the side of the truck. I went to the corporate office and had a battle with them to no resolve. They say they cannot test ANY stack, diesel or gas...YEH....Guess I'm modifying it temporarily.

In this part of the world all the testers do is block off one of the stacks and test the emissions from the other or test both and then average out the results.I've never heard of anyone raving about a safety hazard to test stacks before.

In lake havasu I've never had any emissions testing. Must be a county thing like in Oregon? What part of Arizona?

Maricopa County.....Phoenix area... I'm going to call a couple of other testing facilities before I cut my pipes and divert them. The really sad thing is my truck is 300lb GVW over the allowed 8500lb where they just hook to the computer and test sensors and not the exhaust.

I say take it in on an empty tank and cut some weight out of it, then take it back.

Exactly, Unfortunately that would not help the GVW....They use a bar scanner to read the factory sticker inside the driver door....

So after much debate and anger with Maricopa County....I cut the pipes at the mufler output. Found a sleeve to put inside the 2.75" pipe and welded the elbow stem going to each stack to the sleeve. Put a clamp on the muffler and re-welded the support bracket to the frame.

This allows me to drop the pipe from inside the stack and turn it 90 degrees to the side so it stuck outside the cab far enough for them to test it. This worked really well since I did not weld the exhaust pipe to the stack so it could move with the bed and cab twisting, especially off-roading...I didnt use flex pipe to the stack for certain reasons.
